When The Ocean Calls

"When the ocean calls, answer it!"

The ocean has always fascinated you. A deep, beautiful well of untapped knowledge and potential. It's frustrating to you that humanity knows more about the stars than what lays beneath your feet, the very water that brought this land to life. You love all of the beautiful creatures in the sea, from the smallest sea star to the largest whale. You especially love whales. To see them up close, to hear their songs is a dream come true.

You're standing on the pier, beautiful sea gulls float above your head. The sun is sparkling on the water like a million tiny diamonds. You breathe in the sweet, salty air allowing it to fully expand your lungs. The sun is warm and sultry as you tilt your head back and treasure the moment.

In the far distance, you can make out a ship on the horizon. You take a deep breath, the view calms and inspires your soul. You find it so mysterious, untouchable and unreachable. You wonder where the ship is coming from and what her destination is. A view that creates a desire of freedom and adventure within you.

You can feel warm, mellow tears fill your eyes are you hear whales in the distance. They sing melodic, simple songs like the bowing of a cello back and forth. Their sounds suggest ancient times, a slow movement that could outlast human civilization. The sound is closer to music than language, you have never heard a more beautiful sound.

A narrow, wooden stairway leads you towards a beautiful, inviting beach. As you continue down the stairway, you notice how the bright white sand stretches down the shoreline as far as you can see. The ocean is a deep shade of blue with the fine white crests of the waves sweeping towards the shore. You reach the end of the stairway and step down, sinking into the warm soothing sand. The roaring sounds of the sea’s surf, the waves crashing over each other, calms your mind. As you walk down the beach you notice the details of sights and sounds around you, and soothing sensations of the sun, the breeze, and the sand below your feet. This is where you belong. This is where your soul feels most at peace.

You quietly stare out across the ocean. You wonder what might be secreting in the deep, untouched waters. You envision lost cities buried under layers of water waiting to be discovered. Your mind creates images of strange creatures, from the most magnificent to the most terrifying.

Glazing into the deep blue waters is captivating. You're in total bliss as you listen to the calming sounds of the waves crashing. You can hear the wind as if it swirls around you. So alluring, you stare aimlessly, looking far beyond until your eyes meet the skies. Your bare feet in the sand, and the sensation of the water between your toes as the tide comes to you and then leaves again and again. You feel as if it pulls you inward with each motion.

Taking more steps towards something so amazing and mysterious becomes so much more different. Slowly walking, you're feeling the pain as you step on the unknown. Unbalanced with little control and the waves crashing down instantly consumes you. You quickly feel so small.

The burning salt in your eyes and the roaring in your ears sound like thunder. As if you're in the middle of a storm standing vulnerable. Seeing each wave appear as if you are it's target. It isn't long before the waves push you aggressively back to shore. You have no sense of where you're standing because you are no longer at the same spot of which you entered... It becomes clear that this is where the pleasure ends....

You awaken feeling sad and despondent as you realize that it was all just a beautiful, flawless dream. You remain motionless, attempting to hold on to the illusions just for a while longer. The ocean with it's enchanted charm slowly fades from your awareness. You close your eyes and try passionately to go back, just for a while longer. The dream eludes you.

As you slowly and shoddily rise you notice glistening particles of sand slip softly down your shoulders.

This is not the first time that the ocean has mysteriously called to you ....
