What Pulls Us Down Are the Things That Once Pulled Us Up!

But how do you rise up again?

It isn’t the things we haven’t had or experienced that pull us down. It’s the things that we once had, and the possessions we once treasured that we are burdened with.

The burdens we carry

We are burdened with the memories of the people we’ve loved and lost.

We are pulled down by the things we’ve had back in the good old days.

We are weighed down by our failures, by the things we did but did not work out the way we wanted them to.

“I’ve tried everything,” is much more painful than not being able to try anything at all.

Beneath those words is that feeling of exhaustion, and sometimes, of hopelessness, because if we have already tried everything, what else is left for us to do?

And that is why it is harder to get up after a fall than to rise up without any memory of pain. We’re afraid to try again. We’re afraid to have tried our very best only to know that even our best is still not enough.

A child oftentimes seem more courageous than older people because he hasn’t been hurt as much. His hope is full of all the wonderful things he feels he can still do. His memory is not yet burdened with failures and doubts.

But the one who is really more courageous is the person who rises up despite his many falls. It is being able to go on despite the hurt, and to move forward despite losing much of his hope.

How do you have this hope?

1. By being humble enough to admit that you haven’t tried everything yet.

While it is true that you may have tried many things and failed, it is very possible that you haven’t tried everything yet. There may be some things you felt were just not worth your time. There may be those things that are not to your liking. There may be those that you still have to discover.

Pause for a while. Take a rest but don’t give up. Listen to those who may give you a clue. Hear the stories of those who succeeded after almost falling into despair.

You may have one more move left before quitting. And it be the very last key that could open the door towards your dreams.

2. By realizing that we could never guess what happens next.

No matter how wise we think we are, we could never guess the future. There are so many things that could still happen between today and the many days you could decide to hang on and wait.

If bad things can suddenly happen without our knowing, could it be that good things are also just around the bend?

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road…Unless you fail to make the turn.”― Helen Keller

3. By doing what’s possible until you attain what seems impossible.

Quite often, there are many things that are still possible for us to do. Things that are right before our eyes. Things that could eventually lead to the next step of our journey. Let us not judge therefore that all our ways are blocked. We must take the steps available for us today. We must keep doing what is within our power to do.

Final words

When one is trapped between his approaching enemies and a dead-end leading only to a vast open sea, his hope is almost nil. But if he could believe even then and hold on with courage, he has already achieved victory. For that man, even the seas will be parted to make way for his faith!
