Water Your Own Flowers - they’re already blooming🌸🌻

find beauty in your own garden

Greatness is in my DNA, but gratitude is my grounding

It struck me one random afternoon as I sat beneath the sun, letting its warmth rest gently on my skin. I found myself wandering through thoughts of the past-wondering how life might have turned out had I chosen differently. What if I had said yes where I said no, or no where I said yes? How different would things be now? Decisions about life, relationships, and careers are never simple. Every choice carries its own weight, because we live with the reality that tomorrow could either reward us or remind us of what we’ve lost. Who among us would choose the latter? Certainly not me, and I imagine not you either.

Yet perhaps the truth is that our decisions don’t always need to be as heavy as we make them out to be. That very day under the sun, I realized something I had almost missed: while I was busy in my own head, worrying about what might go wrong, life itself was quietly happening all around me. I was standing in the middle of what was once one of my most fervent prayers-and I didn’t even notice.

As the sun shone bright, I forgot to look around at the blessings beside me. The community that has carried me through difficult seasons. The dear friend who has lifted my burdens as though they were her own. She has stood with me, helped me shoulder the weight of my struggles, and done so with grace, without complaint. Yet there I was-too distracted by dissatisfaction to acknowledge her presence. My thoughts were running wild about how life could be more perfect than it already was, blind to the fact that I was already surrounded by evidence of answered prayers.

I overlooked the simple beauty of what was within reach: the flowers in my own garden. They were not flawless, and truthfully, I hadn’t always cared for them consistently. Sometimes I watered them faithfully, and sometimes I neglected them, yet still they grew. Still they bloomed. But on that day, one particular flower had been waiting far too long for my attention. While I was gazing into other gardens, comparing mine to theirs, the winds of the season swept through and claimed it. It withered because I had been absent, too consumed by longing for what was not mine to tend.

Isn’t that what so many of us do? We spend countless hours turning over what we lack. We imagine how much brighter things could be if only circumstances were different. We scroll through the lives of others, measuring our worth against theirs, forgetting that once upon a time, the very ground we stand on now was sacred to us. This life you are living today was once only a dream, a whispered hope, a prayer whispered late at night. And yet, instead of living in gratitude for how far we’ve come, we often linger in dissatisfaction, hungry for more, blind to the beauty already present.

This is not to say you should ever settle. Greatness runs through your veins, and mediocrity was never meant for you. But in chasing the future, do not despise the present. In yearning for what you do not yet have, do not neglect the flowers already entrusted to you. They may not look like the blossoms in someone else’s garden, but they are yours-and they will bloom if you tend to them.

So, trust the decisions you’ve made. Believe that each choice, even the imperfect ones, is shaping a life that can still be whole, still be fulfilling. Do not lose today in search of tomorrow.

Live here. Live now. And let tomorrow unfold in its own time.🦋🌼
