Unbroken March: How Army Veteran Robin D. Stokes Turned 28 Years of Service Into a Mission of Healing
Visionary Women Spotlight

Some people build their life’s work around a lesson learned from the outside looking in. Robin D. Stokes built hers from the inside of it. She served her country for 28 years, then turned around and spent the years after in service to survivors, families, and communities still fighting battles no uniform can prepare you for.
That story of service and healing found a powerful stage this year at Her March Forward Conference and Awards, held at Bishop State College in Mobile, Alabama. The event brought together a room full of authors, coaches, and changemakers on Women Veterans Day, a day the City of Mobile chose to honor in a big way. City leaders presented a proclamation to visionary Dr. Lena Payton-Webb, recognizing her work and the movement she has built to celebrate women who served. Robin D. Stokes stood among the speakers that day, bringing her own story as a woman veteran into a room built entirely around honoring women who served and the women who show up for them.

Who Robin D. Stokes Is
Robin D. Stokes is a proud United States Army Reserve veteran who served honorably for 28 years, retiring at the rank of E6 as an Operating Room Technician. Born in the Bronx, New York, and raised partly in South Carolina before later living in Brooklyn, Robin’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and remarkable service to both her country and her community.
Her military career began as a leap of faith and a step toward safety, yet it became the foundation for a lifetime of discipline, compassion, and leadership. Over her 28 years of service, she earned recognition for her commitment and excellence, including honors for Outstanding Duty during Annual Training, a Commander’s Coin for Exceptional Service, and a Letter of Recognition for an Outstanding Investigation on a Fatality.
After retiring from the Army Reserve, Robin transitioned into the field of social work. For the past eight years, she has served as a Social Worker for the Child Protective Services Sex Abuse Unit through the Baltimore Department of Social Services, following seven earlier years serving the same mission in New York City. Her work places her alongside detectives, judges, and federal partners, specializing in forensic social work and sex crimes investigation.
Robin holds an Associate Degree in Human Services, a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, a Master’s Degree in Health Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She has also completed 16 credits toward a Doctorate in Counseling and holds professional certifications in Mental Health, Dementia Care, Addictions, and Forensic Studies. She is the founder of Mastering Experiences, a platform built around books, speaking, and workshops that help individuals and communities navigate trauma, grief, healing, and growth with hope and purpose.
A Life Rooted in Love and Service
At her core, Robin believes that life’s greatest purpose is rooted in love, both showing love and being loved. Through her military service, her social work, and her advocacy for others, she lives that truth every day, reminding everyone she encounters that resilience, compassion, and faith can heal even the deepest wounds.
Robin is also a contributing author of Her March Forward, published in two volumes that highlight the courage and personal journeys of women who have faced life’s hardest challenges and continued moving forward anyway. Her book Mastering Experiences of Life chronicles a journey from trauma to triumph, offering readers actionable hope for anyone ready to break their silence and step into a life of true purpose. Through speaking engagements and workshops, she creates space for trauma informed healing, grief support, and reflection for women’s groups, schools, churches, and community organizations across the country.
Showing Up for Women Veterans
Robin’s presence at Her March Forward carries a weight that few speakers in that room can claim in quite the same way. She is not only there to honor women veterans. She is one. When she took her place among the speakers, she joined a lineup of authors, coaches, and consultants gathered for one shared purpose. Honoring the women who served this country and often did so without the recognition they deserved. The conference and awards ceremony was built to change that, giving women veterans a stage, a story, and a spotlight of their own, and Robin brought her own 28 years of service directly into that spotlight.
The timing could not have been more fitting. The event fell on Women Veterans Day, the very day the City of Mobile chose to publicly recognize Dr. Lena Payton-Webb with an official proclamation, honoring her vision and her tireless work lifting up women who served. Bishop State College opened its doors to host the gathering, giving the moment a home inside a historic institution that has long stood for opportunity and community in Mobile.
For Robin, being part of that room meant standing among fellow veterans and survivors who understand sacrifice from the inside. Her message of healing through storytelling and resilience after hard seasons spoke directly to a room full of women who have carried both the weight of service and the weight of what came after it. It was a full circle moment. A veteran and healer speaking as one of the honored, not just one of the speakers.
Why This Story Matters
Every woman in that room at Bishop State College carried her own story of resilience. Robin D. Stokes’s story is proof that a life of service does not end when the uniform comes off. It simply changes shape. She took 28 years of military discipline and paired it with years of forensic social work, then built a platform that helps other survivors turn their own trauma into purpose.
Her presence at Her March Forward was more than a speaking slot. It was a statement. Women who serve deserve to be seen, honored, and celebrated, and the women who show up to build them up deserve that same recognition. Robin D. Stokes showed up as both, and in doing so, she reminded every woman in that room of something worth carrying home. Healing is possible, resilience is real, and the march forward never truly stops.
