Try to walk that one extra mile

My regret story so that you don’t regret

Let’s walk that extra mile before the sun sets

Life, something that is too big to describe within a story. But the main elements remains the same. Love, Career, Health, Family & Friends; but how often do we value any or all of them when we have those in abundance? All our lives, we mostly complain how miserable our lives are and how much is the grass greener in everyone’s life. But is that really true or are we just habituated to self pity?

I have always felt that my life contains all the problems and challenges that no one has ever seen. And to my surprise, my best friend feels the same. Over the years I have been on this planet, complaining has become my second nature. Be it health or relationships or career, I can complain without a brake but never thought of how I can solve my complaining issue or even my life in all the aspects.

I kept on saying just one line, “I don’t have enough time”, and used it in all different aspects of my life. Turned out, I was neither working on my dreams, nor meeting my friends, nor taking even 15 minutes out for my workout or a simple walk and also not at all giving any time to my family. All because I created a situation in my mind that I don’t have time. But the fact was I wasn’t doing anything. My days started passing by, all immersed in overthinking and I couldn’t even realise that days turned into 5 months. It isn’t like I haven’t worked at all, but for sure I haven’t given my all. And so I haven’t reached where I thought I would be 6 months back.

One day, I was going through my old photos of 2017 and found an album named, “Evenings with Shruti”. And all my memories with this wonderful friend of mine whom I have met like 6 years ago came to life.

That also reminded me of one of our conversations. One evening in 2018, when I was having a cup of chai with her, she started admiring me. As both of us were living away from our home in US, and had been in charge of all household chores plus taking care of ourselves along with our masters in computer science, she knew what challenges we both had face on a daily basis. So, that evening, she compared her daily tasks with mine and appreciated at length that how much more I am able to do in the same day she has.

That got stuck in my mind. I was working without giving much of a thought but she opened my eyes. Unknowingly, I was giving that “extra” to my career, my apartment, my relationships and my health and still always had time to catch up with her every evening. And then I realized, how just by doing our work with focus, can change our lives. When we limit ourselves to a certain task or certain hours of work or workouts or hangouts with our friends, we set our own limits. But actually, all we need to do is push ourselves to that extra in everything we do and then we won’t regret our efforts or our days. We won’t regret that we didn’t gave our best.

So all we can do is just push ourselves for everything we want to do in our lives. Why can’t we do a bit more in our lives? Why make a room for regret when we can make space for celebrating our efforts? So this is just a reminder to myself and everyone, that let’s at least try to walk that extra mile, who knows we’ll find the greener grass?
