The Elephant Rope

Occasionally, a motivational tale reveals our inner strength. An inspirational tale serves as a source of motivation and inspiration for you. Determining your capabilities and limitations is another benefit. You have probably read hundreds of them in your lifetime. However, it remains to be seen how many of these genuinely altered your perception.

These are a few motivational short stories that teach valuable lessons while also illuminating some hidden aspects of life.

When a man happened to stroll by an elephant camp, he noticed that the elephants weren't being chained or confined in cages.

The only thing preventing them from leaving the camp was a short rope that was fastened to one of their legs.

The man looked at the elephants and could not understand why they had not broken the rope and made their way out of the camp with their sheer might. They had every opportunity to do so, yet they made no attempt at all.

He inquired of a neighboring trainer, intrigued, as to why the elephants were simply standing there and making no attempt to flee.

The instructor answered,

"At that age, the rope is sufficient to hold them when we tie them when they are much smaller and very young." They are socialized to think they are incapable of separating as they get older. Never attempting to break free, they think the rope can hold them.

The elephants were not escape the camp because they had come to believe that it was impossible for them to do so over time.

Moral: Always maintain the conviction that you can accomplish your goals, despite the world's best efforts to prevent you from doing so. The first step toward genuinely attaining success is believing you can succeed.
