The Art of Letting Go

A short sad love story

In the quaint coastal town of Bamburi, where the streets were lined with beautiful coconut palms and the air was always perfumed with the scent of fresh fried mahamri, there lived a young woman named Riziki. She had grown up surrounded by the gentle whispers of the wind through the palm trees and the soothing melody of the nearby ocean waves. Yet, amidst this serene setting, Riziki carried a weight in her heart that seemed to darken even the brightest of days.

Riziki's heart belonged to a young man named Karisa. They had been childhood sweethearts, their love blossoming like the flowers in the town square. They laughed together, dreamed together, and promised each other forever. But as they grew older, life began to pull them in different directions. Karisa's dreams led him in the city far from Bamburi, while Riziki found herself rooted to the familiar streets she had always known.

Despite the distance, Riziki and Karisa tried to hold onto their love. They wrote letters, made late-night phone calls, and held onto the hope that one day they would find their way back to each other. But as time passed, their connection began to fray like the threads of a well-worn sweater.

Riziki knew deep down that holding onto something that was slipping away only caused more pain. She watched as Karisa drifted further and further from her grasp, like a ship disappearing over the horizon. Her heart ached with each passing day, yet she found solace in the memories they had shared, the laughter that had once filled the air between them.

One beautiful summer evening, as the golden sun dipped towards the horizon, casting a warm glow across the sky, a gentle breeze danced through the palm trees, rustling their leaves in a soothing melody. The sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant hues, with streaks of pink, orange, and purple painting a breathtaking backdrop for the setting sun. Birds sang their evening songs, adding to the symphony of nature's serenade. However, in this tranquil moment, time seemed to stand still, as Riziki sat on a rock and her thoughts wandered into the past. It was a beautiful summer evening, filled with the magic of fleeting moments and the promise of endless possibilities, Riziki made a decision. She realized that sometimes, love meant letting go. It meant releasing the tight grip she had on the past and allowing herself to embrace the uncertainty of the future.

With a heavy heart and tears streaming down her cheeks, Riziki took out her phone and wrote a message to Karisa. She poured her soul onto the drawn-out text, expressing her love for him and her gratitude for the memories they had created together. Then, with trembling hands, she closed her eyes and hit the send button, releasing it into the waves like a bird taking flight.

In the days that followed, Riziki found herself slowly letting go of the pain that had weighed her down for so long. She wandered through the streets of Bamburi, basking in the warm rays and breathing the breezy air, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face and with each step, she felt a sense of freedom wash over her, like the gentle rustle of the leaves in the wind.

As the seasons changed and the town transformed around her, Riziki discovered a newfound sense of peace within herself. She realized that letting go was not a sign of weakness, but rather an act of courage. It was a way of opening herself up to the endless possibilities that lay ahead, of allowing herself to be swept away by the currents of life.

Though Riziki's heart still held a special place for Karisa, she knew that their love story had come to an end. But in its place, she found a new chapter unfolding—one filled with hope, resilience, and the promise of brighter days ahead.

For Riziki had learned that sometimes, letting go is the best therapy of all.
