The Art of Becoming

So you want to change?

By Anne AmoPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

The question first is why?

To become, one would need to be at terms with who they are now, to address how they will grow into who they need to be.

Whether your motivation is a terrible breakup (like me), self-deprecating thoughts, or simply being fed up with staying static in progress, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you're going to begin now.

Before we jump into this you may be wondering, "Who is she to tell me how to get from point A to point B?"

Honestly, I'm nobody unless you make me something. A friend, mentor, a stranger from across the screen—whatever. One thing's for sure, I was where you are and I wish someone were there to tell me this.

Now get out a pen and paper folks, we're getting into the nitty-gritty.

  1. What does your peak (prime/best) self possess? (Qualities, Looks?)
  2. What is stopping you currently from obtaining these qualities?
  3. Why do you want to change?
  4. What is the consequence of not changing? (This is important, it holds you accountable for not beginning)

Once you are aware of these things, it becomes easier to navigate through what is needed to be done. Create micro goals—don't try to tackle change in one big go.

I understand that a common roadblock between someone's goal is usually fear and discomfort.

If you're comfortable, you're not growing.

You want to get a new job. You're going to go to interviews. Do you want to be sociable? Go put yourself out there.

What you're not going to do is allow your own thoughts, or what others may think of you, decimate what could be for you. Someone will always have something to say but ask yourself this: they are not you, so why are you going to allow them to control you?

Lastly...

Do not be afraid of failure! To be successful you're going to face possible failure and you can't be afraid of that. Understand that failure is also a growth opportunity. Expect success, but prepare to fail. If you set yourself too high up, you will fall harder, and it will be more difficult to pick up the pieces.

This is becoming, there is no one-way street, there is no loophole. There is only grit, growth and self-awareness.

I wish you the best of luck.

Feel free to tell me how it goes!
