Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.
Surfing
Have you experienced the rush of a crashing wave? After finding your way to the surface, you wipe the water and hair from your face, only to realizes another is barreling towards you. You strategize in a hastened mindset how you will pass this next wave, and look even further to how you will conquer the set. There is no time to react, with a six foot force rushing towards you. You react, hoping a few tries are enough enlighten your muscle memory. These are the struggles of a new surfer, seemingly daunting, but experientially invigorating. All of this take place in a deceptive environment. It seems peaceful, hearing the waves crash, feeling the spray of salt water, and smelling the saltwater. All of your senses are triggered as you pursue the activity, yet the environment develops into a retreat from reality. This paradox is the appeal to surfing. Because a surfer recognizes the false mindset, and it makes the trip to the beach much sweeter and more meaningful. It challenges your physical and mental abilities, as well as the naive characterization of the ocean as a harmless place of relaxation.

I was standing in the spotlight, everything was silent but I swear I could hear my heartbeat hammering against my chest. My hands were clammy and my knees felt like jelly, yet they never let me fall. I don’t remember singing or crossing the stage so I can properly deliver my lines like the main performer did. I was the understudy that was thrown on stage last minute, still in shock. Loud whistles and claps, almost like thunder rippling throughout the room and waking me from my deep focus.

So you may be wondering why the hybrid between Change and Challenges? Change means that what once was will never be, and that all that snuggly comfort gets ripped from under your feet to a mysterious new territory. Change may even mean what once gave you purpose is no longer an option, or who.

Yesterday morning I woke up and decided that I wanted to try a smile, it didn't last long. So I faked it the rest of the day, hoping that the real smile might return. It's okay though because I know one day it might just return and when it does I will embrace it, never letting go. At least that's what I tell myself when I go through my day getting glimpses of its beauty when around those who truly make me happy. So, what is the appropriate response to these flashes of smile that just might, maybe one day, brighten my future? I assume it is to just hold on tight and never let go, but then eventually you just get to a point where you feel like it is a lost cause to keep chasing someone who doesn't reciprocate the same emotions.

In the past few weeks, I have been having a lot of bad days and naturally, I just assume that’s the way it has to be and that there’s nothing I can do about it. All I can think about is the negative situations that have occurred lately, which makes me feel as if nothing will get better from there. I had been feeling like this day after day and it was really starting to get to me. All I could focus on was the negative moments in my daily life. However, then today I had a typical day of just hanging out with friends, playing card games, and eating good food. Nothing out of the ordinary. But at the end of the day, I felt extremely satisfied and happy. It was a breath of fresh air and it was able to bring a smile back to my face. It was such a small, simple day, but it helped lift my spirits more than I could ever have imagined.

We often get so frazzled by the haste of modern life that we forget the simple joy and beauty found in stopping to smell the flowers. This could mean either literally stopping to make contact with nature—even if it does trigger a sneeze or two—or doing so in a way that involves you truly appreciating the things you have around you.

I love being alive. I love seeing when the sky is purple and pink and orange, and I love watching storm winds flip vacant hammocks over, and I love listening to rain and watching the moon.

For most of my life, or at least the portion of it that I have read for pleasure, I have had a ridiculous inability to stop reading unsatisfying books. Even if the book has been excruciatingly dull, I force myself to the last page in a minor act of self-torture and I hate myself for it.

I used to walk around every day carrying a backpack full of bricks, because that’s what I thought I had to do. I’d look around and see everyone around me with their shoulders hunched forward and their gaze cast downward and think eh, that’s life. I wore the backpack to classes, to work, to social exchanges…sometimes, I would even forget to take it off before laying in bed every night and lose sleep over the pressure of the weight. One morning, I woke up…spine knotted, joints aching, heart filled with dread over carrying the damn backpack throughout the day ahead… and I decided to cheat. I looked both ways to make sure I was unseen, and then I slid one of the bricks out and tossed it clear through the window. The shattering glass sounded like wind chimes.
Kylee WinnettPublished 6 years ago in MotivationSaturday!!!! My Saturday!!!
As everyone already knows, there are seven days in a week. In a normal person's life, those days might be divided into three categories: work, personal, and reverence. For me, they were divided the same way. Mondays to Fridays were fine. When I got to a Monday, I couldn't wait for a Friday. After Friday came MY day. SATURDAY!
