In 2005, Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave what many consider to be the most influential speech of his career. Speaking at Stanford University's commencement ceremony, Jobs shared his personal story, his views on life and death, and his philosophy on following your passions and pursuing your dreams. The speech would go on to inspire millions of people around the world and become a classic in the realm of motivational and inspirational talks.

Jobs began by sharing three stories from his life that had shaped who he was and the choices he had made. The first story was about dropping out of college and how that decision had led him to take a calligraphy class, which would later inspire the design of the first Macintosh computer. He emphasized the importance of trusting that everything will connect in the future, even when it seems like the dots don't make sense in the present.

The second story was about getting fired from Apple, the company he had co-founded, and how that failure led him to start Pixar Animation Studios and eventually return to Apple and revolutionize the technology industry with the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. He encouraged the graduates to embrace the setbacks and failures in their lives and see them as opportunities to grow and learn.

The third story was about his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, which had given him a new perspective on life and the importance of living every day to the fullest. He talked about the inevitability of death and how it can serve as a motivator to pursue one's dreams and make a difference in the world.

Jobs then shared his philosophy on following your passions and doing what you love, even if it means taking risks and going against the norm. He encouraged the graduates to find their true calling and not settle for a job that doesn't fulfill them. He also warned against the trap of living someone else's life and following someone else's dreams.

"Your time is limited, don't waste it living someone else's life," he said. "Don't be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Jobs ended his speech with a call to action, urging the graduates to go out into the world and make a difference.

"Stay hungry, stay foolish," he said. "I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you. Stay hungry, stay foolish."

The impact of Jobs' speech was immediate and profound. It went viral on the internet and was watched and shared by millions of people around the world. Many credited the speech with inspiring them to take risks, pursue their passions, and live their lives to the fullest. The speech has since become a classic in the realm of motivational and inspirational talks, and its lessons continue to resonate with people to this day.

In the years following the speech, Jobs continued to innovate and push the boundaries of technology with Apple. He introduced the iPhone, which revolutionized the way we communicate and access information, and the iPad, which created a new category of portable devices. He also oversaw the launch of the App Store, which transformed the way we use mobile devices and opened up new possibilities for developers and entrepreneurs.

Sadly, Jobs' battle with pancreatic cancer ultimately proved to be too much, and he passed away in 2011. However, his legacy lives on through the products he helped create and the inspirational speeches he gave. Jobs' speech at Stanford University remains one of his most influential and enduring contributions, and its message continues to inspire and motivate people around the world to pursue their dreams and make a difference.
