Scented candles can transform an ordinary room into something special with their wonderful scents. They are especially great during the holiday season, particularly at Christmas time when you want to create a festive atmosphere. Scented candles can also make an evening more romantic. In addition, research has shown that scented candles containing essential oils can do more than just enhance a room's ambiance. They can also have a positive impact on how you feel. Essential oils in these candles can trigger parts of your brain, sending signals to your body to relax, lower stress levels, and boost your mood.

A study conducted at Yale University has found that certain scents released by aromatherapy candles can temporarily reduce blood pressure. In the tests, individuals exposed to specific scented candles experienced a drop in blood pressure by an average of 3 to 5 points. The scent that had the greatest effect was spiced apple. Once blood pressure drops, you will feel more relaxed and in a better mood.

If you struggle with sleep or have insomnia, scented candles may be a helpful solution. Studies have shown that certain scents can help you fall asleep more easily at night. Two of the most calming scents are lavender and sandalwood, both of which can reduce anxiety and promote deeper, more restful sleep. In fact, a study at the University of Maryland Medical Center found that inhaling lavender helped many people with sleep disorders to fall asleep. With these scents, you'll be able to wake up feeling more refreshed and energetic, and lavender may even boost your mood.

Aromatherapy can provide temporary relief to individuals who suffer from depression. It's important to note that depression is a serious medical condition that cannot be cured by aromatherapy alone, but it can help alleviate some of the symptoms. Some scents, such as peppermint, lemon, chamomile, and jasmine, can aid in boosting moods by targeting the endocrine system and causing the brain to release tension, nervousness, and negative emotions. Other scents, like cinnamon, vanilla, rose, and cedar can help in relieving some depression symptoms by triggering happy memories.

Aromatherapy candles can not only improve your mood but also boost your energy levels. The scents of citrus, such as grapefruit, orange, and lemon, can make you feel more positive, excited, and energetic throughout the day. A study conducted by Mie University in Japan found that inhaling citrus scents can improve immunity, protecting you from diseases and keeping your energy levels higher. In particular, the scent of grapefruit can trigger feelings of joy and happiness, making you feel more alert and energetic. If you ever feel drowsy during the day, you can stimulate yourself with the aroma of peppermint.

Among the popular scents are:

Scents that evoke the natural environment, such as fresh air, green grass, the beach, water, and pine, can remind people of happy times spent on vacations or while hiking in the forest or on the beach. It is a well-known fact that these types of scents can help people cope better with the winter blues by filling their rooms with these fragrances and allowing their imagination to transport them to these pleasant outdoor settings.

Citrus scents like grapefruit, orange, or lemon can boost mood and provide a fresh and clean atmosphere in a room.

Vanilla, pumpkin, and brown sugar are warm and cozy scents that remind people of holidays and happy times spent with family and friends. These feel-good aromas create a comforting atmosphere that can instantly elevate one's mood.

On the other hand, mint, sandalwood, lavender, and green tea are fragrances that induce relaxation and a sense of luxury. They can help reduce stress and anxiety and make people feel as though they have just been to a spa. These scents are perfect for unwinding after a long day.

Scents for a romantic evening:

Cinnamon has been known to have a greater effect than perfume in bringing on feelings of romance.

Vanilla, though just a simple scent, has a comforting and pleasant aroma that neither men nor women can resist.

Lavender, one of the most calming scents, is also relaxing and makes a great choice for an evening of hand-holding, kissing, and tender feelings.

Ylang Ylang has long been used as an aphrodisiac and has mood-lifting effects, thanks to its sweet, soft, and flowery fragrance that is simply irresistible.

Orange blossoms consist of an essential oil known as neroli, which is one of the oldest aphrodisiacs around. So instead of tossing rose petals, try tossing orange peels for a change.

Finally, Jasmine, with its floral and wood scent, brings on an old-fashioned type of feeling that both men and women adore.

Romance by Candlelight

There can be nothing better,

bringing about a feeling of longing,

an ache deep inside -

to reach out to the one you love.

*

Warmth and fragrant candles,

fiery kisses deep in the night,

holding hands as dizzying scents waft about

and feeling alright.

*

Nothing says romance,

like lighted candles,

all about, warm flickering golden light,

wafting fragrance in the air.

*

Heightened feelings,

of love contained inside.

A heart that begins beating,

along with the pulsating candle flame.

*

Romance by candlelight,

as old as time,

throughout the centuries -

says I love you like nothing else can.

*

Lovers have long been known to succumb,

to golden candlelight that flickers

and glows so bright,

bringing tender silhouettes upon the walls.

*

Lovers have long been known to succumb,

to the glow of moonlight,

which seems to make everything silvery bright

and love so very right.

*

A combination irresistible,

candlelight and moonlight,

while lovers entwined -

sleep sated throughout the night.

happiness
