The scope and nature of corporate management is a very broad subject. But those who have spoken about the nature of management have discussed them separately to assist you understand them better. Management is so common and essential in all organizations, because it is so fundamental and universal. Managers are very important in any organization because they have to be able to lead, manage, and coordinate other people's efforts to achieve a certain objective or target.

Managers can be considered as the leaders of the organizations' workforce. This is why management and leadership are often interchanged. A manager is someone who leads a team of people with the purpose of achieving a particular goal. A leader is someone who guides and assists his/her team. This helps the managers to make important decisions and gives an overview of the current situation.

When you study about the nature of management, you find out that it is divided into different functional areas. Functional areas are divided based on the line of authority and responsibilities that managers assume. For instance, the first functional area is planning and organizing. In this area managers must plan the strategies and tasks for the success of the organization and organize people according to these plans.

Planning and organizing are the first two functions, however; they are not limited to this scope. The scope of this area is broader, as it includes all the other functions like production, sales, purchasing, advertising, and customer service. This broad scope of functions enables managers to accomplish their objectives and to ensure the productivity and competitiveness of the organization.

The next aspect that helps us understand the nature of management is the function of goal-oriented management. This is the most common form of management and involves planning, organizing, and controlling. On the other hand, the nature of the scope is broader, as it also involves planning, organizing and controlling but without any aim toward achieving the desired objectives. In short, the Universal Resource Dictionary puts every business objective in a goal-oriented context.

Managers should be able to explain the nature of each of these three functions clearly. A clear definition of these functions enables managers to organize their staff, operations, resources, material resources and technology in such a way that they can achieve their objectives. They should also be able to explain why each function does what it does. Most importantly, they must be able to explain how they fit into the larger context of the overall management process.

The third aspect of the nature of management that needs to be discussed is relationships. It is considered one of the most important aspects of this universal field. If we consider human beings to be the ultimate resource, then we find that managers are the most essential resource of organizations.

These people play an important role by planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling the various processes and activities that make up the major aspects of their organization. In the end, it becomes very important for them to understand the nature of the relationships among all these different elements. This understanding of relationships, however, needs to be done in a generic sense.

As a matter of fact, management depends upon many things. A manager cannot survive without a clear idea of what these things are. But it all depends upon how we define the nature of management and it means what we think of as a general concept. We can say that management is dependent upon things done individually or by teams. We can also say that it depends upon the nature of organizations and what we call its organizational form. We can even say that it depends upon the goals of the organization and how these goals are realized.
