Be smart

By Sajjad ShareefPublished 3 days ago 3 min read

In the annals of leadership history, Nelson Mandela’s story stands as a beacon of resilience and transformation. Affectionately known as Madiba, Mandela endured 27 years of imprisonment, yet emerged unbroken, holding steadfast to his vision for a better South Africa.

While incarcerated, Mandela secretly studied Afrikaans, the language of his oppressors. Little did he know that this skill would become a powerful tool upon his release. Here’s how his leadership unfolded:

Resilience in Adversity: Mandela’s unwavering commitment to justice and equality fueled his resilience. He weathered the storm of imprisonment, using those years to sharpen his resolve and deepen his understanding of the human condition.

Bridge Builder and Unifier: Upon his release, Mandela faced a deeply divided nation. Instead of seeking revenge, he chose unity. He used his knowledge of Afrikaans to build bridges with the white population, fostering understanding and reconciliation. His leadership transcended racial boundaries.

Forgiveness Over Retribution: Mandela’s decision to forgive rather than seek revenge was pivotal. He understood that forgiveness was not weakness but strength. By embracing forgiveness, he set an example for a nation torn apart by apartheid.

From Prisoner to President: Mandela’s journey from prisoner to President of South Africa exemplifies the transformative power of leadership. His leadership dismantled apartheid, paving the way for a more inclusive and just society.

Moral of the Story: Nelson Mandela’s leadership not only freed a nation but also became a global symbol of hope and inspiration. His legacy endures, reminding us that leadership is about empathy, understanding, and positive change.

Be Smart...

The Clever Ant and the Flood

Once upon a time, in a bustling ant colony, there lived a diligent worker ant named Alex. Alex was known for being exceptionally smart. While other ants focused on gathering food and building tunnels, Alex spent hours observing the world around him.

One day, dark clouds gathered in the sky, and raindrops began to fall. The ants scurried to their underground chambers, seeking shelter. But Alex noticed something unusual—the water level rising near the entrance to their colony.

While panic spread among the ants, Alex remained calm. He remembered an old tale about an ancient ant who had survived a similar flood. The secret, the legend said, lay in finding a floating leaf to ride out the deluge.

Alex dashed toward the surface, scanning the rain-soaked ground. Finally, he spotted a large leaf drifting in a puddle. With quick thinking, he climbed aboard and floated to safety.

As the floodwaters receded, the other ants emerged from their shelters, amazed to find Alex dry and unharmed. They gathered around him, eager to learn his secret.

Alex explained, “Being smart isn’t just about knowing facts or solving puzzles. It’s about adapting to challenges, using creativity, and thinking beyond the obvious. Sometimes, the solution lies in unexpected places.”

From that day on, the ants admired Alex not only for his intelligence but also for his resourcefulness. They realized that being smart wasn’t just about having a big brain—it was about using it wisely.

And so, the legend of the clever ant spread throughout the colony, inspiring others to think differently and find innovative solutions.

Moral of the Story: Being smart means more than just knowledge; it’s about using your wits, creativity, and adaptability to overcome obstacles.
