Meet Masai

Devonyet Harris, better known by his stage name Masai is an upcoming artist out of Greensboro, North Carolina. Originally from the state of West Virginia, Masai decided to move to a bigger city to make it easier to be seen and heard in the music industry. 

Masai has always been a fan of music from loving to dance as a little kid to becoming a well-known DJ in the nightclubs back in West Virginia at the early age of 17. Being a Dj was Masai’s first career in music, as he spent time doing college parties and club events from campuses like Marshall University to colleges out of state like Rio Grande & Ohio University. Later on, he realized he just wasn’t doing everything he wanted. Crowd control was a key to his success but being behind the table instead of in front performing wasn’t an ideal future for him. He just wasn’t scratching that creative itch he had this inspired him to start his rap career. Masai has released a couple of projects with many singles each release has a different range of success and total streams of 500K+ on Spotify alone. 

He stands out with incredibly unique flows, clever wordplay, and an overall fresh melodic sound mixed with incredible lyrics. Besides recording, his live performances are ones you’ve got to see! Stage diving, crowd work, and rooftop parties from large festivals performing alongside DJ Scheme & Lil Keed to opening up in club venues for Travis Porter, Moneybagg Yo, and Taylor Gang, he’s got talent & enough crowd control to rock any crowd. Taking over any show in the blink of an eye and leaves an experience fans will talk about for years. 

In 5 years Masai sees himself more comfortable in the rap game. He doesn’t know if that’s with a label or independent but he does see success in his future. He feels the music will speak for itself over time. In the next 5 years, he plans to make sure Masai is a household name. From radio stations to Spotify playlists, his success will be well known and his stature solidified in the music industry. Aside from the music Masai has talked about branching out further in the entertainment industry, he has discussed acting in past interviews and general interactions with fans. A big thing on his agenda besides becoming the most versatile artist and performing in all genres is community work. Masai makes a big impact in his surrounding communities working with kids and trying to further their future by making themselves something great while also giving them someone to come to with a solution and help with any situations as his mentors did prior.

Masai brings a lot to the music world. He brings a lot of talent but on top of that, he brings a kind heart and a good soul. Masai often loves to help out others and teach anyone in any way he can in the music industry and life. Masai mixes and masters his music so he often helps other artists learn about engineering and other parts of their craft. His ideal accomplishment is leaving a legacy for his family and team to be proud of and stand behind. Being an icon and idol for generations to come.

Besides a good sound in music, Masai brings a different type of style to rap. His personality is very high-spirited and one that anyone can get behind. Rap to him has become more of a Me vs Everybody type of style and he’s wanting to change that and bring in more unity. Willing to work with anyone from Millions of streams to barely hundreds, if you work hard and are in it for the love of the game, he’s willing to work with whoever. Bringing music together is the key for him and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals and aspirations.
