What’s your name and where are you from? ———- My name is DaeQuan Ty’Shawn Smith (day- QUAN) known professionally as DQTHEGOAT. I was born in Toledo, OH born June 24, 1994. My parents moved to Atlanta, GA when I was 3 so Atlanta is really home for me. Currently I’m residing in Houston, TX, moved out here for a change of scenery and just a fresh start. So far, I’ve been really inspired and put out a whole album since I’ve moved here almost 6 months ago.

Why do you love what you do? ———-I love what I do because, music has always been therapeutic for me. Music has always been a form a therapy for me as long as I can remember. It’s helped me through some tough times and dark moments. I continued making music because it had the power to heal or even get others through difficult circumstances whether it’s mentally or physically. I’m able to put all my emotions on the track and leave them there. I didn’t really have people I could talk to and trust growing up so making music filled that void for me. Music is what keeps me calm and is my biggest motivation in life. When I am making music I feel like it’s my way out, it’s my peace, and nobody can change that. Sometimes it feels good to just be able to do certain things and have talents that other people don’t have, and that’s how I see music.

What makes you different? ———- What makes me different is that I actually have talent, and I mean that with no disrespect to other artists. I’m an all around musical artist, who can really flow, sing, and engineer my own recordings. I’m what you call a mixed breed, if you heard my music sometimes I may sound similar to: Chris Brown, Big Sean, August Alsina, Drake or even J Cole. Not saying that I try to emulate these artists, but it just drives home the point that I’m not in a box and which ever way the beat takes me then you might end up getting one of those similar styles out of me. Another thing is my music is actually insanely good and I have songs that are better than most A-list celebrities and what you hear on the radio.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? ———- In 5 years I see myself with a solid legacy and recognized as one of the greats. The goal was never to be famous, I just wanted the money and not the lifestyle. I wanted to live a quiet life and enjoy making music. However, this day and age fame can’t be avoided and I’ve accepted it so that’s why I’m applying myself even more. I also plan to create some plan to help other artists get their music heard so the world can see their talents to give them an opportunity I didn’t have. I probably would focus more on writing hits for others as an opposed to focusing on my career as an artist, and I say that because at a certain point I’ll like to slow down and enjoy my life and take a back seat so to speak. I’ll still be involved in music but won’t be in the forefront.

What do you want to accomplish in life? ———- I want to accomplish all my dreams and goals that I’ve set out in the beginning. I want to help change my family’s lives and relieve some of the burdens people deal with on a daily basis. Want to give back to the community to show myself thankful for the position I was grateful to be in.

What do you bring to your industry? ———- I bring wholesome and good music to the industry that are still hits. I’m taking a different approach with my music. It’s so much sex, money, murder, and drugs content in music today, although , but that’s what’s destroying the youth. I don’t want to contribute to that so my content is about real struggles and encouragement and positivity, but without the profanity, and degrading content. We glorify the bad so much and I think it’s time we change that. I make clean music that’s E for everyone. I feel as though you’re more marketable that way when your music doesn’t have to be censored and more opportunities become available to you. I don’t want to be responsible for misleading the youth, when you know they will mimic whatever you incorporate in your lyrics.

What do you want to be remembered by? ———- I want people to remember that I was the best to do it and didn’t have to compromise anything I stood for. I want people to hear my music and feel inspired and to know that they can make hits without degrading and vulgar material. When it’s all said and done, there will never be another DQTHEGOAT.
