Lesson 7: Comparison is the biggest Thief of Joy!
Happiness Grows When You Focus on Your Own Story
It’s tough not to compare yourself to others!
Maybe a friend gets promoted, a coworker starts a thriving business, or someone shares a picture-perfect moment online. Suddenly, even if things are going well for you, your life can feel a bit smaller, sad.
I’ve felt this way more often than I’d like to admit. Scrolling and comparing, I’d get that quiet sting of not feeling good enough, as if I was falling behind in a race I never chose.
The truth is, comparing yourself to others takes things away from you. It steals your joy, peace, and gratitude, leaving you feeling like you’re not enough. It also makes it harder to notice the good things in your own life.
Imagine a forest where every tree grows at its own pace. Some reach the sunlight quickly, while others take years to get tall. Comparing one tree to another doesn’t help the forest. It just makes you forget to care for your own tree.
Your life works the same way. Your big moments, achievements, and lessons come at the right time for you. What looks like quick progress for someone else might not be right for your path, and that’s perfectly fine.
I remember a time when I was building my business, teaching, coaching, and working on myself all at once. Whenever I saw others who seemed further along, I felt discouraged. I compared my progress, my results, and even what people shared online. It made me think I was failing just because my life didn’t look like theirs. Feeling down, I took a walk. I reminded myself of all the small wins I had; the people I had helped as a teacher, the small but important changes I had made in my business, the ways I had grown. That day, I realized I was not behind. I was right where I needed to be.
Comparison can act like a mirror, but it’s often a distorted one. Instead of helping you grow comparison, brings jealousy, doubt, and worry.
The solution is simple, though not always easy; stop shrinking yourself. Whatever your situation may be, try doing the following;
Track your own progress, however small.
Embrace your timeline. It’s yours for a reason.
You find more joy when you stop trying to keep up with others and focus on your own path. Gratitude grows when you notice the small steps you take. You’ll feel more at peace when you trust that your life unfolds at the right time for you.
Next time you catch yourself comparing, pause for a moment. Take a deep breath. Focus on your own growth and be grateful for the unique pace of your journey.
Your journey matters, even if it doesn’t look like anyone else’s. Live it fully and honestly, and appreciate the pace at which you’re growing.

Lesson 8: Small daily habits shape who you become.
Big goals often begin with quiet choices like waking up early, reading a page, drinking water, praying, journaling, choosing kindness, or saying no when it matters.
In my next lesson, I’ll share how small habits have changed my life in ways big resolutions never did, and why who you become is shaped quietly, one decision at a time.
Stay tuned. Consistency may be quiet, but it changes everything.
