The Safety Plan
It was a stormy and rainy first weekend in June. The rain pounded on the roof and hammered the large front window. The wind howled fiercely outside. The beating rain and the erratic whipping of trees, limbs and the surf of the lake, gave them the sensation of being out to sea. The noise of the storm sometimes jolted them and sparked a tinge of panic. But they continued to remind themselves, THEY WERE SAFE…..it was just the storm. This was, after all, part of the healing process. Seth did not like loud noises and was fearful of the dark. Darkness would arrive in a few hours. It would take some reassurance and encouragement to keep Seth calm and invested in the project.

Astrology as Encouragement
Astrology has been part of my life since I was a 90’s kid with 15 minutes of computer time a day on dial-up. I subscribed to the earliest newsletters with my Hotmail account because it seemed like the thing to do on the internet. One of those mailing lists was a horoscope newsletter. The other one was a beauty newsletter with tips for getting rid of wrinkles, critical for my 8 year old face.

The Tranquillity of Coffee, and the Impossibility of Chance
We are in a slightly alternate version of Brooklyn, on the first Tuesday of March 2021, in what seems to be a quaint plant-draped café. The café is full of patrons, all mingling with each other as if it were March 2019. In one corner, right next to the coffee machines and a profusion of potted and trailing plants, hides one relatively unremarkable girl. We drift on into her head.

Quaranthoughts
It’s another day looking out the window and thinking of endless possibilities. I want to do something, but can’t seem to find anything to do. Focus and effectiveness seem to be such hyped words in today’s landscape, but I can’t seem to grasp them in reality. I start doing something, then soon move on to the next thing.

Her Voice Echoes
She was only 21, the sound of her mother’s voice now only a faint memory. “Where did this disease come from?” “How did I not see this coming?” She wondered as tears flowed down her cheeks, out of her swollen eyes, tired from days and nights of endless crying.

The bull, the lion, and the crab
There once lived a stubborn bull who had convinced herself that she wasn’t good enough. The bull lived comfortably enough with her friends, the crab and the lion. Their lives were simple, and their desires were few. They shared a stone cottage in the woods that was just the right size for the three of them. The three friends were alone in the world, save for each other.

Can't buy me dreams
A young man had been walking around the city looking for a job. After walking all day without any success in his search, he sat down underneath the shade of a tree. He brought with himself some papers, his inseparable black notebook, and a few dollars that were left in his pocket. It had been another long day and the sun was almost setting. Someone suddenly approached him:

The Little Black Book
Life gives you the experiences you need, the suffering and trauma, to allow your soul to evolve. Those who complain are missing the point. Don’t get me wrong. I love to complain. I hate sleeping on the cold sidewalks of Los Angeles. This was never the life I had planned when I moved here with my newly acquired bachelors degree in Hospitality Management from Arizona State University. The plan was to work at a prominent nightclub as the gate keeper, telling all the beautiful and wealthy people who wanted to go behind the magic curtain, no. Sorry, we are at capacity. To make them wait outside and humble their fragile egos, while helping train their scantily clad bodies to endure the cold of a West Coast night. And then, of course, to work my way up the ranks until I owned my own club. Till I was king of LA’s nightlife.

Finding Home
Eating was not an option. But I did have about four ounces of water left so I figured I could ration that for a day or two. Besides my tattered Merrills, (one with a broken lace and 2 eyes missing), a pair of ripped painter pant cut off shorts, and Styx t-shirt form the 80's, I only had three beloved belongings. A hydro-flask covered with stickers from every country or state my son Dane had ever visited, a personalized pen getting dangerously low on ink and my moleskin journal.
