Dwelling on negative events rather than positive ones is common with humans. We keep over-learning from dangerous or harmful situations we encounter in life; trauma, betrayal and bullying aids us to avoid them in the future and react quickly in crisis.

However, you will have to put in extra effort to train your brain in a way to overcome negative thoughts. Follow these steps to do so:

* Don't even try to stop your mind from negative thinking, if you say to yourself; "I have to stop thinking about this" only makes you think about it more and more.

Best thing to do is to accept responsibility for your concerns. Recognize your concerns e.g:

"Money is a concern for me." "I'm preoccupied with work issues."

Treat yourself as though you were a friend; When you're feeling bad about some personal issues, think about what advise you can give a friend who is in the same issues you are in. Now try to direct that advise to yourself and put it into practice.

Socratic questioning has been shown in studies to help get relief from depressive symptoms. The idea is to shift your perspective from negative to positive e.g: ("I'm a failure.") to one of success ("I've had a lot of success in my work.")

To help you overcome negative thinking, here are some few questions you can ask yourself:

You have to first put down your negative thoughts, such as "I'm doubting my ability and it's making me to experience difficulties at work"

Then ask yourself, "What proof and fact do I have to back this up?" Make sure it's not just an ordinary feelings?"

"Could it be that I'm just misreading the situation?"

"How do you think other people would perceive the scenario from a different perspective?"

"How would I react if this has happened to someone else?"

The bottom line remains that: We all have negative thoughts and that's why we are humans, but once we recognize them and challenge them will give us a significant step towards having a happy existence.

* Science has shown that; the benefits of these old practices are of great help, for example Breathing exercises have been shown in studies to help alleviate anxiety and sleeplessness symptoms. Depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and attention deficit disorder are all examples of mental illnesses. Yogis have utilized pranayama or breath control for ages to improve vigor and concentration. Breath-meditation was recommended by Buddha as a means of achieving enlightenment.

* Rewrite Your Narrative.

Writing about personal experiences with oneself and then changing your tale has been shown to boost happiness and good mood, the practice also leads to behavioral improvements. We already know that expressive writing can help with mood problems and cancer patient symptom reduction, among other things.

Some study have proven that; writing in a personal diary for 15 minutes each day can improve general well being and happiness, because it allows us to be more aware of our surroundings, express our emotions and settle internal issues. You can also take the next step to write and revise a tale about a specific hard time you're going through.

*Be realistic and work towards achieving a particular goal, Example:

Money is a challenge, but there are few steps you can take to improve your financial situation

Don't put too much emphasis on finding love, concentrate on meeting new people and having a good time. The rest will take care of itself.

*Get to work!

People are happy when they get up and walk around, even if it is just a little. People reported being the happiest if they had been moving in the previous 15 minutes, according to a study that tracked cellphone users' mobility and moods. The majority of the time, it wasn't strenuous activity that put people in a good mood, but rather mild walking. Of course, we don't know whether moving makes you happy or if happy individuals simply move more, but we do know that increased activity is linked to improved health and happiness.

*Optimism is a special skill that can be learned.

Optimism is partly inherited and partly learned. You can locate your inner ray of sunshine even if you were born into a family of gloomy guses. Optimism does not mean dismissing the reality of a crisis on ground. Many people, for example, may feel discouraged after losing a job and believe, "I'll never recover from this." "This is going to be challenging," but an optimist could in the other hand say; "it's a chance to reconsider my life goals and discover job that actually makes me happy."

* Having positive thoughts and nice people being around you can truly help. Do you know that optimism and pessimism, has the potential to spread to people around so make it a point to associate with folks who are upbeat.
