Seeing that many young people born in developing countries want to migrate to developed countries, this article is important to help you focus on the free skills training that you are already acquiring or should acquire to help you succeed as a Migrant in a developed country.

First-off you should know that everyday you are being trained for free, if you don’t know yet let me show you how much skills you have or you could have

1. Electricity – You are almost certain that you are not going to have electricity 24hours a day and 7days a week, so you either generate your own power via generators or you must learn to make hay while the sunshine. If you generate your own power via generator then fuel will be an additional cost and so you must learn to be prudent. If you do not have the luxury of generators then this means that you must arrange your activities that require electricity(Iron cloths, charge your phone, etc) to meet a certain light schedule, and if it’s a bad case of electricity you then have the additional challenge of not knowing when you will have power, now you have to develop the ability to be flexible to quickly move things around to accommodate the presence of electricity whenever there is electricity; and if you never see electricity you must learn to laundry in a way your cloths appear to be ironed, because we will not accept any excuse for you looking unkempt, and so you develop 2 skillset without realizing it

Skills Acquired

a. Organizational Skills

b. Flexibility

2. Water – Water is either available via borehole if you can afford it, or intermittently via public works to your house (when the water board has light) or via a public tap. Whichever of the above source you get your water from you will develop at least a skill set; If you have a borehole you will need electricity to pump water, and so you organize to pump water when there is power-supply or when your put on your generator, if you do not have the luxury of borehole in your house then you must wait to collect water when the water-board supplies, then you must store the water and then use prudently to ensure your water sustain till the next supply, additionally because getting water can be expensive and you do not have an unlimited budget you now must learn how to manage your finances in a way to get you to the next pay, if you have one. If you are using a public tap, you have to learn to organize people to be orderly and take their turns to avoid fights all the time.

Skills Acquired

a. Organizational Skills

b. Budgetary and Financial Management Skills

c. Managerial Skills

3. Transportation – If you live in a congested city you should know by now that time is everything, so you must learn time management, start your trip before the no reason hold-ups starts; or If you can afford a car, then you can afford the luxury of being held up for hours in traffic without no visible reason, at least you would be enjoying the comfort of your air-conditioner, if you don’t have an air-conditioned car well you can still enjoy the privacy and control of your car space; If you use local travel public transport then you will have to endure heat, and body fluids from others, odour and cramped space, alternatively you could alight from the vehicle and take the long walk home at least you have an advantage over car owners they cannot walk away from their cars, whichever transport system you use in developing countries you will have to also be patient because there will be many delays,

Skills Acquired

a. Patience, Endurance

b. Time Management

c. Team player

4. Security –The short story is that if you are victim of a crime, theft, harassment etc, chances are that your case will never be resolved, indeed the crime may not be the only trauma you will suffer, your trauma may also cost you money, so if it’s not so much a big crime (wow what is a big crime) well you simply bear it, take your loss in stride and move on. If it is big like a kidnap or if it is one that you know the perpetrators with evidence, you may want to follow through, if you choose to follow through it will cost you, if it’s a case of kidnap you will pay ransom and other associated cost, when the case gets to the judicial system, prepare to get justice anywhere in the far future, if you are alive to see it and at even greater cost to you; Justice delayed they say…. In any case so you definitely don’t want to be a victim: Since you have only God and yourself to protect you then you develop

Skills Acquired

a. Attention to Details

b. Quick decision making under pressure

c. Negotiation Skills.

5. Healthcare – Although there is probably no accurate data that shows how many lives that could be saved if they had quicker or faster access to Healthcare, I will guess many and so you have to take care of yourself, to do this pay attention to what works for you and what does not; become a quasi-self trained first responder so that you know what to do, and even brave-up and weather some terrible illness, if it does not kill you it will make you stronger, whether you like it or not, because you will not get quick attention, if you want quick attention then you must pay exorbitant for it, and quick attention don’t mean quality medicare, just don’t fall ill and to do this you will have to

Skills Acquired

a. Attention to details

b. Hygiene

c. Reduced panic

d. Develop some immunity

6. Education:- I have never really heard about pedagogy in public schools, you are basically on your own, so imagine educating yourself, through primary school, secondary and tertiary education, if you are lucky and your parents can afford private schools, you develop additional skills of being able to compete, and so you can

Skills Acquired

a. Fast Learner

b. Performing well with limited supervision

c. Persistence

7. Caregiving – this is one of my favorite, it is a taboo to send your senior citizens away to a home, so in addition to all the things you are grappling with you have to care for your senior citizens this may be one of the more rewarding skills you get, loads of appreciation, if you don’t have senior citizens you likely have siblings to care for and by the way that responsibility does not go away when you migrate, my point is that you also learn to be responsible in the cause of everyday.

Skills Acquired

a. Sense of Responsibility

Warning this skill set assumes that you have money to pay the bills, now if you are unemployed and still acquiring the above skills, you deserve an award and maybe you should be the one writing this articles because you much more skilled.

In summary, Everyday you have to find water and light, you have to be patient for transport and you have to endure the conditions you find as you commute, and you must ensure that you remain safe as you go through the day paying attention to details, and reading the space well before anything untoward happens and if it does make a quick getaway or negotiate your way out, to be able to get away you have to stay healthy so pay attention to yourself, and by the way if you need new skills and education, although you pay and attend formal education you are likely going to have to teach yourself everything you know and in other to keep-up with global trend you better do it fast. Everyday of your life is something like this or a variation of this and so by just living you have multiple strengths, skills and attitudes.

In conclusion all you need is an opportunity to excel, don’t get carried away with…

Goodluck.
