Most people see making mistakes as defeat. We feel defeated and defeated because of our wrong decisions about marriage, work, school. We begin to see ourselves as the most miserable person in the world. However, the pain and anxiety we experience after our mistakes teach us very important lessons. Mistakes, failures, bankruptcies hurt; But as we make mistakes, we learn new things. Maybe we learn things that we would never learn if we didn't make mistakes. Our perspective towards life, love, work and family changes. In such situations, we try to go beyond our own limits and get out of the comfort zone.

In other words, as long as we can learn from our mistakes, we need not fear anything. As our ancestors said, “One misfortune is better than a thousand advices.” Now let's see what the mistakes we make in life can teach us:

1. Failure is not the end of the road.

By Dan Asaki on Unsplash

When you fail, you feel like you've reached the end of the road. Everything you dreamed of has been shattered and in such situations you feel worthless, helpless. You will collapse physically and mentally.

But failure is not the end of the road at all. Yes, failure hurts, but it also gives you a clean slate to rise from your ashes.

Often times, the fear of failure preoccupies us more than failure itself. What do others think? What does the hand say? What if I'm chewing gum in the mouth of the nation? How do I face my family?

Failure is not the end of the road, even if such questions absorb a great deal of our energies. If Steve Jobs had succumbed to failure, there would be no Apple or iPhone today.

2. It helps you determine your priorities in life.

By Michal Matlon on Unsplash

No one can taste success to the fullest without failing, so to speak. Some people make a few mistakes before they succeed, while others make hundreds.

But here's the thing: When you fail, weird things start to happen. You begin to reconsider your priorities in life. You realize the value of things that are important to you. You return to your inner world and review your dreams and goals.

So setting your priorities well is one of the key steps in tackling failure. If success is a must for you, you need to make success-oriented adjustments in life.

3. It determines the values you believe in.

By Catalin Pop on Unsplash

If you value the wrong things, it will be very difficult for you to achieve success. If you truly believe in the values you believe in, you will definitely achieve success if you haven't made up values for yourself just to make a joke.

If you have values such as improving the world and making people's lives better, failures and mistakes will never stop you from your path.

4. It makes you a more compassionate person.

By Clay Banks on Unsplash

You know the power of the ego. Before you go bankrupt, you care more about what others think than yourself.

But when you go bankrupt, your ego is shattered too. As a result, you become a more compassionate and humble person. You rediscover your human feelings. In other words, after a big failure, you face the fact that "you didn't create the little mountains" and you become a better person.

5. Your perspective on finance changes.

By Annie Spratt on Unsplash

Failure in business, marriage, or human relationships changes your perspective on financial matters. All of our decisions in life have a material return. If you act without knowing the account and book in money matters, you may encounter financial problems in a short time. If bad habits such as alcohol and gambling are included in this, your job becomes much more difficult.

Therefore, do not let failures in life cause you to settle in monetary matters. If you care about financial matters, it will be easier to get back on your feet. In other words, there is an exaggerated expression on this subject: “I would rather be sad in a BMW 520 than sad in Şahin.” Although this phrase has a somewhat cartoonish side, remember that it is a very realistic and correct statement.

6. It allows you to spruce yourself up.

By Michael Meyer on Unsplash

The way to be successful is to be planned. However, it is necessary to regularly revise your plans. So even if your plans in life change, your goal should always remain the same.

No matter how much the Istanbul-Ankara flight is delayed due to turbulence, weather conditions and malfunctions, it always leaves Istanbul and arrives in Ankara. Although the plan changes, the goal remains constant. For this reason, it will be very useful to review your plans after failure and make the necessary arrangements.

7. You learn about your true friends.

By Chang Duong on Unsplash

Especially after your failures in business life, you are very likely to see your real friends. Failure acts as a filter. Everyone is nice to you when you're successful, but when you're broke and broke, no one answers your calls.

However, your true friends will continue to be with you during this process, they will motivate you and help you get back on your feet. These people are your true friends that you can turn your back on for the rest of your life.

8. You learn to control your emotions.

By Hello I'm Nik on Unsplash

Great successes and great failures can change the chemistry of your emotional world. Especially when we think that you are bankrupt in business life, it is very possible to experience a moral collapse. You will feel like all your hard work has been wasted.

But life does not pass by mourning. You can approach life in a more positive and constructive way by rebuilding your emotional world to stand up after major failures.

Our mind is like a camera. Wherever you focus you will see it clearly. If you focus your mind on the right things, you can become more mentally constructive and productive.

9. Your inner world is enriched.

By Paola Chaaya on Unsplash

Regardless of your religious belief, our spiritual world is one of the fundamental values that make us who we are. Failures are often one of the factors that allow us to return to our inner world.

When you stay alone with your inner world and think for a while, you realize that there are people who have experienced the difficulties you are experiencing before you, and there are people who are worse off than you.

In this respect, adopting the motto "There is good in every evil" can be very beneficial for you to stand up.

10. You find that success is something that should not be exaggerated.

By Ben Rosett on Unsplash

“Success is not everything” is an assertive phrase, admittedly. But after a big failure, you realize that success isn't everything.

When you fail in marriage, at work or in life, you change your definition of success, because you take a step back and look at yourself objectively, questioning who you are and your reason for being in life.

The more you prioritize success, the more intensely you will feel the severity of failure. However, if you value happiness and sharing, you will find that it is easier to achieve success.

11. You review your goals.

By Estée Janssens on Unsplash

When you fail, you review your goals. This does not necessarily mean giving up on your goals and dreams. Having solid and realistic goals greatly paves the way for success.

For this reason, you should revisit your dreams and goals from time to time and think about what kind of strategies you can follow in accordance with the current conditions. Just because you're down from time to time doesn't mean you'll be knocked out, as long as you don't give up.

12. You get inspiration from others.

By Ashley Knedler on Unsplash

Failure often makes you think about where you went wrong and learn what successful people did right. Because how many great inventors, entrepreneurs, businessmen, etc., changed our lives today. If there is, all of them are people who have passed through the circle of fortune.

That's why you can learn how successful people overcome defeats, how they achieve success by making moves, tasting failure. You don't mind these things when things are going well, but an entrepreneur should definitely read the lives of people who shape history and learn the necessary lessons.

13. You learn time management.

By Moritz Kindler on Unsplash

Time is perhaps the fairest thing. Everyone has 24 hours in a day. However, what you do in these 24 hours can put you in front of other people or push you behind. After you fail, you better understand the importance of spending your day productively and you start to hate wasting time. That's why you can manage your time much better if you throw the term "killing time" out of your vocabulary and engage in useful things. Unfortunately, we only learn this truth when it hits the ground.

14. You start not to be afraid of difficulties.

By Michael Dziedzic on Unsplash

Mark Twain has a story: “If you have to eat frogs during the day, get it done first thing in the morning. If you have to eat two frogs a day, eat the big one first.”

So here, the author says, you should try to overcome the most important challenges in your life first. Once you've been sore from failure, you realize that you need to prioritize the things that benefit you the most.

15. You look at obstacles in a different way.

By sydney Rae on Unsplash

We have become a society that wants to be fed instantly. We want our stomach to be filled immediately, we want our needs to be met immediately. We are just like children.

But when things go wrong, we realize that things don't happen quickly. We face the fact that it takes hard work and a lot of sweat to be successful.

Realizing that everything valuable in this respect is surrounded by obstacles and there is no other way to reach this valuable thing but to overcome the obstacles, will prevent your mental energy from wasting.

16. You learn not to be intimidated.

By Etienne Girardet on Unsplash

The franchise model of Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC, was rejected 1009 times. However, he knew well that this model was promising. That's why he never gave up. The doors slammed in his face did not deter him, and he finally succeeded.

For this reason, if you believe in the project you offer and the product you produce, never stop trying over and over again. One day there will be someone who understands the value of your opinion.

17. You embrace your goals more passionately.

By engin akyurt on Unsplash

The first two companies of Henry Ford, the founder of Ford, went bankrupt. One went bankrupt, and the other he resigned. But the third time he hit the jackpot in his eye.

What we mean here is that as you fail, you learn what you really want, what you did wrong, what you should not do wrong.

Every defeat opens a new page in your life. If you do not repeat the mistakes you have made during this defeat, the number of mistakes you can make decreases and your probability of success increases. That's why it's a very positive move to engage more passionately in your new goals after failures.

18. You hug your friends and family more tightly.

By Helena Lopes on Unsplash

Failure, bankruptcy, divorce, failing, whatever you call it, these are difficult things. Being alone at such times makes things even more difficult.

In times of failure, our feelings for our family and friends who accept us as we are intensify. Our bonds are strengthened and with the support of our loved ones we regroup.

19. You try to get rid of bad habits.

By Salman Hossain Saif on Unsplash

When you fail, your ego gets hurt. With your ego damaged, you become aware of your harmful habits. Bad habits prepare the way to failure to a large extent.

When you fail, you realize how damaging these habits actually are and gradually try to get rid of them. In this context, we can easily say that failure has an effect like “it hits the head”.

20. You learn to never give up.

By Dyu - Ha on Unsplash

As cliché as it may sound, this is true. If you love what you do and believe in it, you will never give up. Even if you fail, you learn to stand up again and fight.

Even if people make fun of you, don't be afraid to say what you think is right. Keep in mind that only those who don't give up achieve great things.
