"Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.Matthew 4:8-9kjv

It’s always imperative that as believers, we come to grips with the undeniable truth that every action that finds its vitality in selfishness obtains its sponsorship from satan himself. The obvious agenda of this ancient deceiver recognizes the ultimate aim of successfully helping the believer without failing, to veer off God's intended assignment for their lives regarding purpose.

One of the surest ways this seedbed of deception is ably equipped to detract us from God's purpose is by presenting us with such glowing alternatives to obeying God particularly ones that are implicit with the prospects of affording us with the kind of honor that would have perhaps to the best of our finite knowledge taken us decades to obtain.

Satan's alternatives usually possess the ability to strike the cords of desire for the recognition, fame and honor every ordinary person would so much crave for. That desire to be famous, well honored and recognized we can all agree is an inherent trait within every human being. Unknowing to us, satan uses this all ancient bait of grandiose promises to set us up to comfortably tread over God's intended plan for our lives pursuing all other things that deceptively promises us all the joys and glories of the time.

Satan's plan concerning Jesus like today, was to present Jesus the opportunity to prosper in every known precinct of influence within the cosmos with the hope of siphoning the time He(Jesus) had left to pursue the original mandate for which He was sent.

That is exactly what satan continues to do even in today’s world. He gives us supposed better alternatives to our divine mandates. He promises us a sort after name, enormous control and far reaching wealth beyond our scope of imagination all in exchange for our soul, heart and mind.

Jesus throughout His temptation in the wilderness was willing to maintain the sanity and purity of His own soul in order to ensure that all lost souls would come to salvation. Satan is still at it today working frantically with many traps, schemes and wiles to derail us with lofty promises and hopes.

Everywhere we look today we are being bombarded from all angles with schemes, traps, wiles and baits with the sole aim of drawing us further away from Christ and His kingdom. The situation of Jesus then is not much of a difference to what the modern Christian faces today. Our greatest assurance and hope is that, if Jesus as a man touched by the very infirmities that plagues us as mortal men today was able to overcome these constant berating and persecution from Satan then we also can overcome his traps intended for our destruction.

Traps don’t often look like dangerous instruments particularly to the victim or one who is being targeted. They are usually sugar coated and baited to look very appealing but in reality their intent is to maim and hurt you and even worse kill you. Scripture is clear, that the devils priority mandate is to kill, steal and to destroy (John 10:10) but what God gives us is eternal life that is beyond expiration and termination.

Just like the question Jesus poses in Matthew 16:26 that, For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? I ask you again what are you willing to give up your soul for?
