Cinderella

A magical journey from rags to riches

By [ Hamza Khan ]

Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a kind and gentle girl named Cinderella. She was known for her pure heart, her soft voice, and her endless kindness, even in the most difficult times. Cinderella’s life, however, was far from easy.

After the death of her beloved father, she was left in the care of her stepmother, a cold and selfish woman, and her two spoiled daughters. From the very first day, they treated Cinderella not as a family member but as a servant. She was forced to clean the house, wash the clothes, cook the meals, and sleep on the floor by the fireplace. Her clothes became old and torn, and her face was often covered with ashes from the cinders of the fire. This was why they cruelly called her “Cinderella.”

Despite all the cruelty, Cinderella never complained. She remained patient, gentle, and hopeful. Her heart was filled with dreams of a better life, where kindness and love could win over hatred and cruelty.

One day, news spread across the kingdom: the King was hosting a grand ball at the royal palace in honor of the Prince. The Prince was to choose his future bride, and every young maiden in the land was invited. Excitement filled the air. Cinderella’s stepsisters were thrilled. They spent hours choosing gowns, jewelry, and practicing their dance steps.

Cinderella too wished to go. In her heart, she longed to attend the ball, not to win the Prince’s heart, but to experience joy and beauty, if only for a night. When she timidly asked her stepmother for permission, she was laughed at. “You? Go to the ball? With those rags you wear? Impossible!” Her stepmother and stepsisters mocked her until tears filled her eyes. On the night of the ball, they dressed in their finest gowns and left Cinderella behind, alone and heartbroken.

As she cried by the fireplace, something magical happened. A gentle light filled the room, and suddenly, a kind Fairy Godmother appeared. With a warm smile, she said, “Do not cry, my dear. You deserve to go to the ball, and you shall.” With a wave of her wand, she transformed Cinderella’s torn dress into a beautiful gown shimmering like starlight. On her feet appeared delicate glass slippers that sparkled with every step.

But that was not all. The Fairy Godmother touched a pumpkin in the garden, and it turned into a golden carriage. Mice became fine horses, a lizard became a footman, and a dog became a coachman. “Go, my child,” said the Fairy Godmother, “but remember, this magic will only last until midnight. At the last stroke of twelve, everything will return to what it was.”

Overjoyed, Cinderella entered the grand palace. Everyone turned to look at her, astonished by her beauty and grace. The Prince himself was captivated the moment his eyes met hers. He took her hand, and together they danced all evening. Cinderella forgot all her worries, her cruel stepmother, and her stepsisters. For the first time, she felt truly alive.

But as the clock struck twelve, Cinderella remembered the Fairy Godmother’s warning. She ran from the palace in panic, leaving behind one of her glass slippers on the marble staircase. The Prince rushed after her but found only the slipper.

The next day, the Prince declared that he would marry the woman whose foot fit the glass slipper. Messengers went throughout the kingdom, but no maiden’s foot was the right size. Finally, they arrived at Cinderella’s house. The stepsisters tried in vain to force their feet into the slipper. Then, Cinderella shyly asked if she might try. They laughed, but when she slipped her foot into the glass slipper, it fit perfectly.

At that moment, the Fairy Godmother appeared again, and Cinderella’s rags turned once more into the shining gown from the ball. The truth was revealed: the mysterious princess was none other than Cinderella.

The Prince, overjoyed, asked her to marry him. Cinderella accepted with tears of happiness. Her days of suffering were over, and she forgave her stepmother and stepsisters, showing her kind heart once again.

And so, Cinderella became a princess. She lived happily ever after, not because of wealth or beauty, but because of her kindness, patience, and hope.
