Best Print on Demand Sites for Passive Income in 2022

I recently wrote a story about Print on Demand:

I’d like to give you a small update on this and show you some of my earnings.

There are quite a few print on demand sites out there. They all have positive & negative points, but for my list I really focused on the ones where you just “upload your designs and then sit back & relax”.

What does this mean? Well, there are many other Print on Demand (POD) sites which require you to do promotions, or to sell your products yourself via your own webshop.

The ones I selected below don’t require this. You just create your designs upload them, and that’s it.

They take care of everything for you.

IMPORTANT: I’ve noticed that sales start to substantially increase once you’ve uploaded 100 designs. So better start designing!

7. Zazzle

So how does it work?

Step 1: Create a design. I recommend using https://canva.com because of their simplicity, user-friendliness AND you can get started for free (although I would recommend upgrading to Canva Pro, it’s not expensive and gives you millions of new design opportunities).

If you don’t know how to get started on a design, then go to the above websites to get some inspiration. Text only designs are perfectly fine and in Canva you can find great fonts and templates that help you get started.

Step 2: Upload your designs to these websites. In the future I’ll make detailed guides for each website, but for now it comes down to the following:

• Choose a relevant title: what would you type yourself in Google, if you would want to find your design?
• Choose relevant tags: all tags (keywords) that are directly related to your title. If you need help with this, there’s a great keyword generator that I found: https://www.podcs.com/

Step 3: keep repeating, keep creating, keep uploading.

You will most likely not sell anything in the past month(s). Your first 50 designs will probably NOT sell. But don’t give up, it will happen.

For me it took me about 5 months. Now I generate between 50–100 euro per month on most of these sites, which — if added together — gives me a nice little extra each month.

And the list goes on.. Combine all of them and you get a nice little extra.

POD Websites that require MORE effort

The above websites do most of the work for you, but this also means that profit is minimized. There are a bunch of other really good print on demand sites worth mentioning, that would potentially make you a lot more money:

• Printful
• TeeSpring
• CustomCat
• ViralStyle
• Etsy
• Printify
• Printaura
• Teelaunch

Please be aware that these sites mostly require you to have your own shop, or you have to setup integrations between one and the other.

You might also have to do your own sales and marketing. There’s more work to be put into this, but also potential larger profits. We’ll cover that in another story.

Summary

There are plenty of ways to generate extra (passive) income these days, you just need to put in the work and be consistent (which most people don’t are).

So whether POD is for you or not, is up to you — I’m just here to share information.
