The Myers Briggs Type Indicator is a personality test that categorizes people based on the traits of extroversion or introversion, sensing or intuitive, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving.

ENTJs, also known as "the Commander," makeup only about 3% of the population. They are the extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging type. They're also considered to be the most successful personality type, largely due to their love for challenges and high level of determination.

Commanders are natural leaders, and they build great teams, which also drives their success. On the flip side, although charming and charismatic, they can struggle with emotions, including their own and with those of others, and that can hinder them at times.

So, let's look at some of the key characteristics of the ENTJ personality type and see whether you're one of them!

Number 1 - Efficient and Reliable

Not only are ENTJs efficient, but they will tolerate no less from those around them since inefficiency takes time and energy away from their goals. ENTJs are committed, which makes them highly reliable. You can rest assured that the job will get done when they're around, no matter the challenges.

They go above and beyond, delivering impeccable results, and they're often seen as strong team leaders. Fully committed to their work, they can balance multiple priorities without dropping the ball on any of them.

Number 2 - Confident and Self-Assured

One of the reasons ENTJs are so successful is that they are extremely confident in themselves. This isn't to say they never have self-doubt, but they don't let it limit them. They trust their abilities, voice their opinions, and trust in their capabilities as leaders. Not only are they confident, but they are also self-assured.

People with this personality type are committed to their beliefs, so once they make a decision, they don't fold under pressure. Even when things don't go as planned or take longer than expected, ENTJs are not easily discouraged, and they achieve their goals simply because they believe they cannot fail.

Number 3 - Mentally Strong and a Go-Getter

Perhaps one of the most admirable traits of the ENTJ personality type is that they don't take things personally. They have immense inner strength, so criticism motivates rather than discourages them, but they're also not afraid to hold unpopular opinions.

So, if someone wants to change an ENTJ's mind, they'll need to outsmart them or prove them wrong first. Always ready to go and focused on the goal, they're unstoppable once they've decided what to do and how to do it.

No matter the circumstances, these individuals will not give up just because the going gets tough. While achieving a goal is fulfilling, rising to the challenges that are sure to come up along the way is just as satisfying.

Number 4 - Unemotional

Although ENTJs are impressively introspective for an extroverted personality type, they tend to ignore their own feelings and often struggle to empathize with others. In some ways, this is to their benefit, as it enables them to remain unbiased and to make difficult decisions. But it's not without its costs.

ENTJs sometimes fail to remember that others aren't always as thick-skinned as they are. As a result, they can come off as insensitive, especially when they're locked in on a goal. Commanders just can't fathom how others can prioritize emotions over facts since they believe that nothing should get in the way of success.

They also have difficulty expressing their emotions, mainly because they believe that emotions are a weakness, so they tend to repress or ignore them.

Number 5 - Articulate

As long as it doesn't involve talking about their feelings, ENTJs are great communicators. They are excellent at public speaking and flourish in debates. This is due to their confidence and ability to present logical arguments.

In fact, as the conversation progresses, they become even more energetic and enthusiastic, so it can be tough to keep up with them because they think and speak so quickly. When communicating with an ENTJ, one must be direct. They hate when people beat around the bush, so being honest and straightforward is best.

Number 6 - Motivating and Magnetic

ENTJs love to lead, and that's a good thing because people gladly have them as their leaders. This is part of what makes them so successful. They accomplish far more than they would be able to alone because of their inspiring and captivating personalities and natural leadership skills.

These characteristics enable them to easily influence people, but not in an overpowering way. Instead, they use their energy and charisma to motivate and encourage others to give their best in everything they do.

Number 7 - Blunt

ENTJs have no problem being blunt when necessary. This can be a good thing because it's their ability to cut through the fluff and get down to business that makes them such great leaders. Just like their ability to remain unbiased though, this can have negative consequences for their relationships.

They expect everything to be flawless, and anything less is unacceptable. When even the most minor thing isn't up to the ENTJ's standards, they have no problem voicing their dissatisfaction. In addition, at times, their delivery can be unnecessarily harsh and can come off as nitpicking.

Number 8 - Strategic and Intelligent

As decision-makers, ENTJs are never impulsive. They are strategic, sharp thinkers and creative problem solvers with great ideas. While others may become overwhelmed by problems, ENTJs are energized by them.

They are the type of leader that can anticipate potential challenges and make tough decisions to move a project forward with smart, long-term solutions. Knowing that others have entrusted them as their leader, they won't proceed unless they're absolutely certain about what should be done.

It is their strategic and analytical mind that makes them some of the most intelligent people out there.

Number 9 - Organized

ENTJs want everything from their homes and personal lives to their professional endeavors to be efficient and organized. This gives them a sense of control and predictability. They are great at both generating and implementing ideas, as well as arranging teams in such a way that they can achieve their goals.

Their plans are strategic and detailed, involving everyone in a way that leads toward success. However, the opposite is also true. Any perceived refusal or deviation from their meticulous plans can cause them stress. Just as they gain energy by helping others stay organized, they lose energy when disorganization occurs, and this can be frustrating for everyone involved.

Number 10 - Driven

ENTJ personality types are not only great leaders, but they're also dedicated workers who crave success in their careers. They are ambitious and have a strong desire to achieve power and influence. ENTJs thrive in positions of power where they're able to make decisions and implement action plans.

They are driven by results and are constantly striving to accomplish more. This is another reason they're so successful. Since they love to work, their lives are focused on career achievements and personal development. As you can imagine, this can be both good and bad.

Although successful, it sometimes comes at the cost of their relationships or physical health. It's easy to see why ENTJs are the most successful personality type. However, they do have weaknesses, just like everyone else.

Some of their most admirable traits can also be their downfall if left unchecked, so it's important that they self-regulate or have someone in their lives to help them maintain balance.

If you want to confirm your Myers Briggs personality type, you'll want to take the actual test. There are plenty of free versions online. Although these tools can be valuable in that they provide a way for us to understand ourselves and others, it's important not to let yourself get stuck in a box made of four letters.

Each of these traits actually occurs on a spectrum rather than as absolutes. For example, no one is purely introverted or extroverted. You have a tendency toward one and may display traits and behaviors of the other to varying degrees in different situations.
