A Letter To Myself

Read In Case of Emergency

By SirenSavagePublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Dearest Michele,

If you are reading this then the year is 2021. I know you're scared. Because that was me. I'm writing to tell you that everything is going to be ok. It may not seem like it all the time but I promise things will work out like they do every time.

You've started new hobbies. You've started exploring more talents and interests. Don't stop. I know us. As soon as you don't see immediate success you will convince yourself that its too hard or a waste of money. Please remember that we are NOT a waste of money or time. If we don't invest in ourselves how can we expect others to? Don't give up Michele. Keep writing your thoughts. Keep trying to be a better mom. Being a step mom isn't easy but that doesn't mean you can just give up on your little girl because it's hard.

Love Jeff. Love him with all year heart every moment of every day. I'm not saying that we don't still get frustrated with him sometimes but that regardless of our frustrations he is still a good man and our love for him needs to be apparent at every moment. Stop wondering if you're being to hard on him. Stop worrying that you AREN'T being hard enough on him. He is a grown man who can handle anything that comes his way in his own time. You're job is to let him know that you are by his side no matter how bad things get. This is something he has done for you when no one else did. You need to learn how to return the favor.

I know the last year was hard for you and you aren't really looking forward to the new one. Don't abandon your hope so easily. We have been through so much just getting to this point and I can tell you that we are going though more even now. But we are survivors. We are healers. Our strength is our love. It always has been and always will be.

Yes. I know, the bills pile up, never stop, and you want to cry with the weight of it all. I'm not saying that those bills aren't important. I'm reminding you that they aren't everything. You know that bills don't raise children or keep families together. You're little family is your whole life. Spoiler alert: They still are. You know that it's not in our nature to regret our past. But I'm warning you now, if we lose them...we will regret it. Snuggle with him more. Help her with her learning even if she doesn't have homework. She looks up to you.

Have faith in yourself. You are stronger than you think and braver than you know. Don't give up on you. Don't give up on the ones you love. Things will be different and change will happen. Don't wait for it to happen on it's own and stop fighting it when it does.

I would tell you more but you really don't need it. Even without this letter I know we will be just fine. But I know that we have a hard time listening to the right inner voice. This is just a visual reminder. Please don't ignore the advice you give yourself. We both know that the advice we give ourselves is the best advice we've ever received.

Now quit fooling around. You've read your letter, now go put it to good use.

Love always, …Yourself.
