Goals are exciting. They can take us from where we are to where we want to be. But starting your goals is not always easy or natural for everyone. It takes discipline, planning and a bit of creativity. We’ve listed five simple steps that will help you turn your goals into reality.

Set SMART goals

Before you can set any goals, you need to know what you’re trying to achieve. Goals are never just about getting something. They’re about who you want to become, what you want to achieve, and why you’re doing it. When setting your goals, make sure you set SMART goals:

- Specific - make sure your goal is clear and precise. You don’t want to just say “I want to be a millionaire”. It’s not specific enough. What do you want to be specifically? A millionaire in what?

- Measurable - how will you know when you’ve achieved your goals? You need to know how you’re going to measure your success.

- Achievable - will your goal be a stretch for you? Will it be difficult for you?

- Realistic - let’s be honest, these goals probably won’t happen overnight. They might take you years, so make sure they’re realistic. To be a millionaire by 25 is probably a little too ambitious.

- Time - how long do you give yourself in accomplishing your goals? Have both short-term and long-term goals so you can pace yourself for the finishing line.

Define why you’re doing this

The first step to setting goals is defining why you’re doing it. If you’re not sure why you want to set these goals, you’re not going to stay motivated to achieve them. You’ll probably set goals without knowing why you want them, but this is rarely a good idea. If you don’t know why you want to set these goals, you won’t be motivated to achieve them. Goals are usually not just about what you want, but also about why you want it. When setting goals, you need to figure out why you want them. Why do you want to be better and more efficient at your job? Why do you want to earn more money? Why do you want to train for a marathon? There are many reasons why you want to set these goals, and this will help you stay motivated. Set goals that are meaningful to you.

Decide how you’ll get there

Once you know why you’re setting these goals and know how you’re going to achieve them, it’s time to decide how you’re going to get there. This could be anything from walking, running, swimming or even biking. There are many ways to get fit and be healthy. This might not be the way you want to spend your time, but it could help you achieve your goals. What’s important here is to find a method that works for you and one that you enjoy. If you don’t like the idea of walking or running, find a way to get some movement in that you enjoy. Maybe you can go for a hike, play hockey or push a goal on your Wii.

Track your progress

Once you’re set up with a method, you need to start tracking your progress. This is the best way to see how you’re getting on and make sure you’re sticking to it. Look for a method that suits you and one that you enjoy doing. You might want to try a HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout, or a push up challenge. Track your progress using a program or app. You can use an app like MyFitnessPal, or make a spreadsheet. Write down each workout you do, how long it takes you, how you feel afterwards and whether you felt any more energized than normal.

Celebrate your success!

At the end of each week, take a moment and celebrate your success. Whether that’s writing it down in a journal or sharing it with someone, celebrating your achievement will help keep you going. You set those goals for a reason. You’re doing something that’s challenging you, and it’s worth celebrating! Don’t forget to take a moment to pat yourself on the back, remind yourself of your achievements, and remind yourself why you’re doing it in the first place. You don’t have to do your goals alone, you can share them with others to celebrate with you. You can set up a community around your goals, or post them on social media to share with others. If you don’t have any friends or family who can celebrate with you, you can celebrate alone. Just make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons.

Getting back to the basics

These five steps are a great place to start with your goals. You may want to add more steps or take some away, but this is a great place to start. It’s important to remember that goals take time, so don’t rush them. It’s also important to remember that goals are about taking action. You can’t just sit around and expect things to happen. The best way to keep yourself motivated is to take small actions every day. You can set a goal, implement a way to achieve it, track your progress and celebrate your success. There are a lot of steps between setting a goal and achieving it, but it’s important not to forget them.
