5 Reasons You Should Learn to Code (Especially If You are a Girl)

Across the world, there are millions of young people inspired to code. Computers open up a world of opportunities and imagination; it is a world beyond what we can touch, where we can be anything we want!

But somewhere along the path between beginner and expert coder, gender stereotypes start showing up as if though the society had upheld some invisible sign that reads "coding is a male job." As a girl coder myself (I am the founder of Top Influencer Marketing Agency and Amra and Elma Digital Agency), I see many of my girlfriends stare at me in awe when I discuss how fun and crucial coding is to my life, freedom, and income.

Most of my girlfriends seem to think that coding is boring, lacking in creativity, and frankly not that important in their day to day lives. When I tell them about the possibility of launching their own companies and becoming one of the most visited websites with limitless income possibilities, they start to listen but still seem hesitant.

If we are to empower girls to be the best possible versions of themselves, we should think about encouraging them to code! Why? It is because the future belongs to those who are most innovative, and what better way to demonstrate this than by creating the most unique digital products and realizing your dreams!

Below, I am including 5 reasons why girls should learn how to code today:

1) You don't need to be an "expert" coder to benefit from learning how to code

There's no minimum skill level required before girls should learn how to code . The truth is, anyone can pick up HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python at any stage in life. If your friends already know a little about coding , then that's great! But never let the myth that only "experts" should learn how to code hold you back. Learning is an exciting journey for everyone!

2) Coding builds confidence!

When you learn how to code, it's easy to believe that anything is possible. There are endless possibilities when it comes to building websites, launching business (even those in beauty, fashion, and home design), developing computer games, and creating animations - not to mention the limitless creative potential of coding in general. It's extremely empowering to be able to control your own success instead of depending on others to do things for you. And once you know how powerful coding can make you feel, there's no turning back.

3) Girls can play a unique role in shaping the future of technology

In the next several years, almost half the world's population is predicted to have access to the Internet. That means over three billion people are joining cyberspace for the first time, giving them direct access to tools that can improve their health, education and financial stability. And guess what? Most of these new computer users are women! This shows how important it is for girls everywhere to learn how to code so they can help design software and websites that make these technological resources more accessible.

4) Coding gives you access to a new job market

Did you know that "mobile app developer" was the fastest growing job in America last year? That's because today, everyone around the world is using their phones and tablets for everything. And developers are needed now more than ever to design apps that make this interaction seamless . The average salary for a software engineer is over $90,000 - much higher than most other entry-level jobs. Not only are these positions secure, but they also give workers the chance to take on creative roles while still being paid extremely well.

Girls should learn how to code because it opens up so many doors later in life! Even if you decide not to become an animator, web designer or entrepreneur yourself , knowing how to program a computer helps you understand what's going on behind the scenes.

5) Learning how to code brings out your creative side

Once you know how to program a computer or write lines of HTML, there's no stopping you from expressing your creativity. Today's animators, designers, and girl founders (I coded my own website) have a great advantage because they know how to use personal computers as their artistic medium. Coding is the language that brings these technologies together, opening up a whole new world of possibilities for those who understand it. And guess what? Girls are just as creative as boys! In fact, there are so many female programmers out there now that technology is starting to feel more feminine than masculine . The bottom line: anyone, boy or girl, with a love for creativity should learn how to code!
