It's not easy, but effective.

JUST DO IT.

Hey there!👋

Below are the 5 Practical Ways.

Make A To-Do List Before Going To Sleep

One major reason you procrastinate is Uncertainty. If you don’t have a plan of what you are going to do with your time you will just do random stuff all through the day and at the end of the day you will feel bad about yourself for not doing anything productive and this cycle will go on and on.

Making a to-do list is like walking in a jungle with a map you know where you should go.

When you wake up without a plan you will have no direction, if you don’t have direction your mind will take control over you, it will tell you to scroll, watch TV shows, and do other shits that you will regret later.

But when you have a to-do list you know what you should be doing, now your mind will help you to complete the tasks (sometimes it won’t, that’s why you need to be disciplined).

By making a to-do list every day and completing the tasks you can make progress on whatever you are trying to learn or build.

Let’s say you want to learn Machine Learning, you find a course on YouTube that is 25 hours long. Now, you can make a to-do list like,

To-Do List:

Day-1

Complete 1 Hour of ML Course.

If you keep on completing the above task for the next 25 days you will complete the course that’s progress.

Let’s add some more tasks. Let’s say you want to write an article on Medium every single day. Then your list will look something like,

To-Do List:

Day-2

Complete 1 Hour of ML Course.

Write “Article Title” On Medium.

After 25 days your 1st task will be over then you can replace that task with another task.

I recommend you add a maximum of 5 tasks on your to-list.

My to-do list will look something like,

Read 1 hr.

Take “some course name” 1 hr.

Work out.

Write on medium.

I am not gonna lie to you, I do miss some tasks on my to-do list, but still, I will complete a few at least. It is better than not having a to-do list at all.

The thing is to give a map to your future self of what he/she should do. If you don’t give the map he will do shit.

Eat The Frog

So, the first task in your to-do list should be the most difficult and important task. The first thing you should do after waking up is complete the most difficult and important task no problem if you didn’t brush your teeth or wash your face, just finish your first task, and after finishing it you will feel a sense of relief and you will have an easy day.

Most people call this method “Eat the Frog”, it’s a book written by Brain Stacy. I haven’t read the book yet but I know the gist of it. Imagine you are given a frog and a delicious dinner and you must eat both what will you eat first the frog or the dinner? Obviously, the frog right? (If you eat the frog after dinner you will throw up).

This part is simple, “Complete the difficult work first”.

Exercise

Have you ever tried to do your work after a workout session? If you have you know how amazing it feels. After an intense workout, your focus will be laser-sharp.

They say, that when you are exercising you are giving your brain a bubble bath with a lot of feel-good chemicals. When you are feeling good, automatically you will be able to stay focused and complete the tasks more effectively.

I recommend you Google the benefits of exercise on focus and brain. Make exercise a habit like brushing your teeth your life will never be the same.

I hope you know about neuroplasticity. Exercising will help with that. You will have a good memory and you will be able to learn more efficiently.

There are plenty of benefits, JUST DO IT.

Set A Separate Time Block For Distraction

If you say I can’t stay without checking my notifications and emails. Then here is a solution for you. Have a separate time block for doing that.

For example, I only check my emails and social media notifications after lunch for 10 minutes and that’s it.

Every day, after lunch for 10 minutes. Other than that time block I will not check my emails and notifications.

You can use this technique it helps.

You can also have 2 time blocks if it is very mandatory for you. One after lunch one before dinner.

But keep this in mind, when you are going to do shallow stuff like checking emails, notifications, texting, watching YouTube, watching TV, and other nonsense just do that.

Don’t do the shallow stuff in between your work. Let’s say you try to read a difficult book don’t check your phone in between pages and paragraphs just read the book for a specific amount of hours (Which is our next topic).

Set A Timer For 2–4 hours And Just Focus On The Work (Deep Work)

When you set to work, put your phone on airplane mode or just keep it in another room.

No distraction when working. I recommend you to do this. Set a timer on your laptop or your phone(but don’t use it) like say 2 hours or 3 hours.

After setting the timer for the next 2 or 3 hours you should only do the work until your timer goes off.

You should not pick up your phone or do any other shit. Just sit and do the work. No problem if you are not able to focus, just go through it and complete the 2 or 3 hours.

Don’t stop until the timer goes off.

That’s it.
