Chances are, you already have a pretty good idea what dress you are looking for. Even if that's the case, this article can let you know the name for the style you already have in mind. Not to mention, it's fun to look at your other options.
First, get an idea of what type of dress you want.
- Sheath
- A-Line
- Ballgown
- Mermaid/Trumpet
You can decide by silhouette or you can mix and match
Some dressed are a mix between A-Line and Ballgown. However, normally the Ballgown poof out dramatically right at your hips while the A-Line is a more gradual change that starts at your waist.
Don't forget that you can always buy your wedding dress in two pieces. By this I mean you can get a top and bottom or you can even buy a full dress and then add a cape.
Consider The Fabric
Satin, Lace, Tulle, Chiffon, Charmeuse, Silk
- If you are on a budget, lace looks good on almost any dress.
- Tulle is likely what your veil will be made of, however it's not unheard of to be made of other fabrics.
Have you decided on the length?
More and more brides are moving away from the traditional long wedding dress. Wedding dresses of all lengths can be easily bought at almost every boutique. However, if you want a long dress for vows and then a short dress for the party ... there is always the Removable Bottom! There are two main ways to get a dress with a removable bottom. You can try to buy a dress that already has a removable bottom built in ... or, a much easier way is to buy a short dress and then buy a separate piece that wraps around your waist.
