A lawn mower can be the difference between a rough-looking lawn and a well-kempt, green one. But, which mower is the best to use to turn your piece of land into a verdant oasis; a zero turn mower or a lawn tractor?

This blog will compare and contrast lawn tractors and zero turn mowers. It will also help you to choose the best mower for your lawn as well as mention where you can get Redmax, Spartan, and Altoz riding mowers.

Zero Turn Mower

A zero turn mower is a standard riding lawn mower that can do a complete 180 degrees turn. This mower can slash your mowing time in half and is a great tool to have if your lawn is particularly large, has trees and bushes, and is time-consuming to mow.

However, many will argue that you can use a lawn tractor to mow a similar lawn. But a lawn tractor has the potential to miss vital tree patches and other obstructions.

A zero turn mower won't, though. You can use it to mow around corners, bends, and objects.

Although it can be challenging to operate, once mastered it gives the best mobility and control. Instead of using a steering wheel, the machine is controlled using two levers. One regulates speed, while the other prompts an immediate machine rotation.

This mower is also handy for cutting back shrubs and other landscaping features. When trimming bushes, most people use weed whackers and end up spending a lot of time doing it, but a zero turn mower can do the job for you in a fraction of the time.

Despite the pros above, this mower has its disadvantages; the casters on the side of a zero turn lawn mower dig into the ground, making it difficult to use the mower on steep terrain or slopes. This restricts its use to only flat lawns.

Also, although a zero turn mower has a tremendous top speed, you will frequently find yourself moving at a slow speed to get an even cut. It is also among the most expensive riding lawn mowers!

Lawn Tractor

A lawn tractor is a mower with car-like functionalities (has a normal steering wheel and a gas pedal). This mower is suited for very large, rugged tracks of land.

With that said, a lawn tractor takes little effort to operate. Basically, you press the gas and go, just like with a car and when you want to decelerate, you press the brake and let off the gas.

Another special feature is that the lawn tractor comes with an extensive selection of attachment possibilities. You can set up add-ons that will assist you with towing, dethatching, and distributing grass seeds.

A lawn tractor also offers greater handling than a zero turn mower. This implies that using the tractor will make it simpler to control your speed while mowing grass on uneven terrain.

However, this mower has its cons; the blades and engine are located towards the front, making this mower more difficult to steer than a zero turn model.

Additionally, the machine has a larger turning point hence you cannot use it to mow around corners and objects. There is also a need for slightly more space to store a lawn tractor.

Best Option of the Two

It will depend on your lawn’s size, obstacles, landscape, as well as the form of maintenance you want.

If you frequently deal with flat, detailed landscaping, need to move fast, or want the best blades and precision, choose a zero turn mower.

If you are looking for power, need to haul materials, attach plows, and mow in addition to working on hilly terrain, choose a lawn tractor.
