The use of essential oils is ancient in origin, being used by the Egyptians as early as 4500 BCE, used in all the ways we use them now. Even so, for some using oils for anything other than cooking can seem a bit outlandish if you’re new to this. I can see your point, but you’d be missing out on the multitude of benefits gained from using these small simple oils in your daily life. If you stick around long enough you’ll find out why Essential oils are “Essential” and why they’re so astoundingly transformative for your mind and body.

What are they?

Essential oils are highly concentrated organic compounds extracted from the components that make up plants. Its organic origins give them those marvelous holistic healing properties, as well as those phytochemicals it contains, and yes it has chemicals, but don’t worry these chemicals are natural and healthy.

Furthermore, these oils aren’t oils like almond, or olive oil. These are called “fixed oils” and are heavier and don’t vaporize the same which is why we can cook with them.

Essential oils also require a substantial amount of plants to spawn just an ounce; for example, it takes 16 pounds of peppermint leaves to get one ounce of an essential oil; this explains why they can be expensive and why they are often found with other additives to stretch the amount of the product.

How can I use them?

The uses are endless and I don’t want to keep you here all day so here are some of the immediate.

  • Bath - Essential oils are great for those pamper yourself days. It’s as easy as adding it directly to the water and anything else you want to use to dilute or give your skin any added benefits.
  • Cold – If you're having those run of the mill respiratory issues, Essential oils can help clear your sinuses right up and even alleviate the illness altogether. Some oils that are great for this are eucalyptus, fir, rosemary and many more.
  • Diffusers - Essential oils can even aid in the character and vibe of a room. With the help of a diffuser and a few drops of your favorite oil, you can transform your home or office and effectively cleanse the air as a bonus.
  • Direct application – Essential oils can definitely be used on the skin and your skin would definitely thank you for it; essential oils like tea tree oil are antiseptics and antibacterial, meaning it’s great for fighting off acne and giving added moisture to dry skin.

I’m hooked, where can I get them?

Well, you’d be happy to know it’s relatively easy to begin your essential oil collection but there are some things to know while browsing in stores and online.

Oils labeled fragrance oil, aromatherapy oil, or perfume oil aren’t the pure essential oils we’re searching for. Most of them hint at the dilution of the product if you read carefully. Though dilution doesn’t always ruin the effectiveness of the product and it may yield the same results.

Also, make sure that the product is pure and what you’re looking for. Every essential oil is different and offers something specific; many are good at dealing with stress some are better for a cold or are good for getting better sleep.

And last but not least, I offer you some reliable companies of which you should trust with affordable prices and high-quality oils.

  • Plant therapy

  • Now foods essential oils
  • Aura Cacia essential oils
  • Thrive market essential oils
