People have been smoking for almost as long as there have been people. Tobacco and marijuana have long been among the most popular (though by no means the only) smokable substances. Smoking has had its ups and downs—tobacco smoking rates have declined significantly in the United States over the past 50 years, and smoking rates reached a low of 14.5 percent in 2016, down from 42.4 percent in 2017 (though marijuana smoking remains extremely popular)—but it has remained relatively unchallenged in its niche. Until now.

Recent years have seen the rise of vaping, a popular alternative to smoking that is upending the industry and the smoking culture at large. Vaping may seem unusual to traditionalists at first, but switching from smoking tobacco to vaping offers a lot of compelling reasons. Marijuana users, too, should consider the change. Here's why.

Vaping is healthier than smoking.

The major reasons that smoking rates have declined in the United States are the campaign against smoking and its negative effects on the health of both smokers and nonsmokers. Smoking is undeniably bad for you, and smoking tobacco products is particularly dangerous. Tobacco smokers see increased risks of lung cancer, heart disease, diabetes, liver cancer, and other dangerous health conditions. Smoking tobacco can even lead to erectile dysfunction — which may not be deadly but can certainly be unwelcome.

While the health effects of vaping are not yet fully documented, experts broadly agree that there is no question that it is safer than smoking. Because vaping doesn’t produce smoke, it goes a lot easier on your lungs. You should know that some vape products still contain nicotine, which is habit-forming, but you should also remember that vaping is generally safer than smoking. Some smokers even use vaping as a way to quit smoking tobacco.

Marijuana users should pay attention, too. While tobacco gets more bad press, there's no doubt that lighting marijuana on fire and breathing in the smoke is not exactly a healthy act. Lighting anything on fire and breathing in the smoke is not exactly a health act. Choosing to vape instead is healthier.

Vaping is convenient.

Vape devices can be small or large, but the recent revolution in consumer habits has clearly been influenced by the arrival of small, convenient vaping devices. Vape pens and e-cigarettes have changed the game, allowing vapers to carry their vapes anywhere.

Because vaping does not produce smoke, it is legal to do in more places (though you should check local laws, as some municipalities have been banning vaping in smoke-free areas). It's less obtrusive and less frustrating to people around you. Vaping in your apartment or home won't stink up the place, and the same is true of your car and other confined spaces.

Vaping is more affordable than smoking.

Investing in a quality vape device such as the Exxus Snap can really pay off. Such devices quickly pay for themselves, because vaping is much more affordable than smoking.

High taxes on tobacco products make cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, and other tobacco smoking staples much pricier than replacement vape cartridges. And marijuana users, too, will find savings. Vaping is the most efficient way to consume marijuana, so you'll get more out of your weed if you vape, which will save you money.

In short, choosing vaping over smoking has a lot of advantages. You don’t necessarily have to stick to all of one or the other, but you should consider swapping out some of your smoking for vaping. It could help you lead a healthier life and get more out of your favorite smokable.
