Meditation itself is blissful and transports one to a serene state even during the training of meditation, not just at the end of training. Because the means equals the end, there is no beginning or end to the training.

Those of us living in modern times are constantly under stress. We are bombarded with uninvited energies such as television, noise pollution, arguments, and envious people. Meditation helps us feel this powerful inner reservoir of enlightened, cleansing energy that can counteract this enormous, overwhelming force of negativity.

Formerly, nature was an integral part of people's daily routines and rituals of existence. Besides the artificial sound vibrations of telephones and machinery, urban industrial complexity did not cause stresses and diseases. I could hear the sound of water, hear the wind hum, see the stars in the sky, and smell the earth.

Every aspect of life follows its own rhythms. As people plant seeds, nurture them into foodstuffs, and as they observe the cycles of nature, they feel connected to the natural world. We live today without direct contact with nature for the entire duration of our lives.

The artificial climate we live in, the food we consume from fast-food restaurants and grocery stores where it is packaged in a factory, and the pace of life we lead are all apart from what our ancestors did, and what we started off by doing.

With meditation, we are able to enter into those lost natural rhythms and aesthetics, by closing out the world around us, letting go of our bodies, and clearing our minds of all the artificial stress accumulated knowingly or unknowingly during our lives.

The benefits of meditation are numerous, and they are free. It has no side effects, nor does it boost your levels of cholesterol or calories. It is also not addictive like other substances. Meditation does, however, provide practitioners with a deep sense of well-being that's often compared to a natural "high" stronger than drugs, and the benefits of this are well worth embracing for positive, healthy results.

In the brain, the body naturally produces medicines hundreds of times stronger than pharmaceutical narcotics. The body secretes hormones and chemicals during meditation that provide a rush of energy and happiness, and this is just one of many amazing side effects of meditation.

Each person has a different experience with meditation. The practice is sometimes used as an alternative or complement to psychotherapy. Many people use it to increase their physical and mental performance, as well as their memory and other cognitive abilities.

The practice can help people deal with grief or the aftermath of trauma or tragedy, and regain a sense of appreciation for life's beauty. Some people use meditation as an inspiration for creativity. We gain stronger and more sustained vigor in meditation, as well as a sense of peace and calm that is comparable to a deep, particularly restful sleep.
