When Life Gives you Lemons, Make Them Magic

Secrets of the Ordinary Witch

What if you had a magic potion at your very fingertips? One that could bring you to a magical place of feeling energized and so near to brand new that you just have to look in the mirror to make sure you haven't turned back the very hands of time. Would you use it? If for nothing more than to feel the fairies dance in your hair like they did when you were just a sweet little thing? A little game of pretend? Maybe it doesn't have to be completely pretend, but it is definitely completely fun to find out just how far our imaginations can bring us from this tangible world into the world of mystery and magic.

Anything having to do with natural magic, in my opinion, needs to have verifiable facts to keep you safe. Don't go out there picking the Devil's Cherries to make a pie with. It's just not smart.

A couple things that we know about lemons in general:

  • Lemons help cleanse the liver by stimulating it to flush out toxins. They have fewer calories, carbs and sugars than their other citrus counterparts. Yet they have about the same amount of vitamin C. So, feeling like you're nailed to a wall or wearing a lead ball around your ankle could actually be alleviated with a little lemon water in the morning. A gentle little nudge to get started before anything else has to be filtered.
  • They are high in vitamin C, which we know has an antioxidant effect to get rid of those pesky free radicals that oxidize our cells. So, now we know that they might even help prevent us from getting a yucky cold, or even help bring us out of one. Green skin, be gone!
  • They have anti-bacterial properties. Are you a bad breath witch? Haha! Not anymore!!
  • They have anti-inflammatory properties. Our poor gnarly green fingers may not hurt as much.
  • They have a diuretic effect. A little water weight never hurt anyone's buoyancy, right?
  • Their acidity helps restore the pH of our skin when used topically. That adult acne and all those liver spots just need to go. It puts a damper on all my love spells.

Now lets make our first potion, you'll understand how the line between the tangible world and the world of magic and wonder are so easily blurred in no time flat.

First thing in the morning grab a cutting board, sharp knife, small 10 oz. glass, your spring water and your lemon and get yourself set up. It's super easy. Just like you would if you were making lemonade for mundane, casual, boring ole sipping.

Give thanks to the lemon as you cut it in half. You don't even have to say anything out loud, just be grateful that you hold that portal to youthful energy in your hands.

Now give thanks to the Universe, or whatever God or Goddess you pray to as you cut those halves in half again.

While you squeeze the juice from each of the lemon quarters into the glass, picture yourself in a setting that gives you the very feeling that you are trying to achieve. Do you remember playing with fairies as a kid? Bring yourself there in your mind's eye. Allow the story to unfold and keep it going for as long as you can or wish to while you now pour the spring water in to fill the cup.

Now you hold something of magic. Pick it up. Look at it. Love it. Now drink it and live it. Keep it strong. It's your life and we only get this one, this time.

This is the life of the ordinary witch. My secrets are simple and yet not very secret at all. I’m an open book full of information and personal experience and these are the first words written in that book. We are so bogged down with the mundane world. Every day there is something new to stress us out, keep us up worrying about something that might not even matter 5 years from now. Something to deter us from our goals, or from making new ones. This is my escape but also my resolution. Finding magic everywhere. Science and magic go hand in hand, from herbology straight over to the Green Witch seamlessly and without effort. I don’t fit into a witchcraft tradition yet I make my own magic every chance I get. Not to be confused with sloppy or ineffective, uneducated or ignorant, it’s simple magic, but very effective. It doesn't have to be showy unless you want it to be, yet that creative spark is lit, hot and beautiful just the same as the fire in your best friend’s backyard fire pit.
