The pandemic has us all sitting around, staring at screens. According to Forbes, remote work is here to stay, with 25% of America’s professional jobs projected to be remote by the end of 2022.

It’s all too easy to become complacent and develop a flabby waist in a matter of months.

If you’re tired of not looking your best, here are a few activities that are proven to burn calories faster than you can say ‘Netflix Marathon.’

Boxing

Boxing never goes out of style. It’ll only vanish if one day making a fist becomes impossible.

Now don’t think you need to go sparring and get punched in the head to lose weight boxing. It’s not the punches that burn the calories.

The constant foot movement, the overall body stance, and the rapid motions all come together to form an activity that truly is a fat burner.

Boxing improves strength, agility, hand-eye coordination, speed, and concentration, in addition to making your sweat profusely. It has a positive effect on cardiovascular health and also teaches you how to throw a proper punch, which is a skill we all hope to never have to use.

All this combined makes boxing a premiere choice for losing weight for men, women, and everyone in between.

Cycling

Who doesn’t love riding a bike? You turn the pedal, and the thing goes forward—tons of fun when you think about it.

But what if we told you that it is also one of the best ways for losing flab?

Cycling is great aerobic exercise - it allows you to keep a steadily raised heart rate for extended periods of time while not being as taxing on the knees and other joints as jogging or running.

The amount of calories you will burn depends on the speed you travel and the time you spend cycling. The short and simple formula is - the more pedaling, the more calories you burn.

We recommend riding a real bike in the open air - your lungs will thank you for it. However, the calorie loss will occur even if you cycle on a room bike. That has the added benefit of being able to watch your favorite show while you work out.

Racquet sports

All types of racquet sports, including tennis, squash, and racquetball, require the player to move constantly and explosively.

Racquet sports employ every muscle in the body and raise the heart rate significantly. They might be tough on the joints, so extremely overweight people should probably steer clear from them.

They are great fun, competitive sports that require concentration and train hand-eye coordination. If you want to have fun while losing fat - enroll in your local tennis club and go have a blast.

Sprinting

Sprinting is not just about running fast - it’s about losing weight fast as well.

While jogging and running are aerobic exercises, sprinting is not - it’s an anaerobic exercise. Rather than burning energy slowly, sprinting uses another type of energy stored in our bodies that releases quicker.

As a result, you’ll be able to burn off the same amount of calories in 15 minutes as you would in an hour-long jog.

In addition to burning calories lightning fast, sprinting also builds muscle in a similar way weight lifting does. However, while lifting focuses on one muscle group at a time, sprinting employs dozens of muscles.

If you take it seriously, have proper nutrition, and leave ample recovery time, sprinting can make you leaner, stronger, meaner, and faster.

Swimming

The first thing we ever did in our lives is swim - in our mothers’ wombs that is. And as all life has come from the sea, almost all living creatures love being submerged and thrashing around in the water. Except for cats, but they’re weird.

Swimming is an exceptional way to lose your belly flab fast. It also promotes a healthy posture, increases lung capacity, and does wonders for the cardiovascular system. The flexibility benefits of swimming is paralleled only by yoga.

Go for the breaststroke for a steady, continuous exercise that will burn more calories in the long run. Go for the freestyle for a more sprint style, explosive, anaerobic style workout.

Whatever you go for, going for a swim at your local pool can do you no wrong and will get you slim and fit in no time.

Basketball

Basketball is one of those sports that suffered from the pandemic situation. With close physical contact discouraged, it was simply not possible to hoop safely.

However, with the entire ordeal calming down, going down to the court for a pick up game is once again one of the best things you can do for your health.

Not only does it employ every muscle in the body and serves as a great cardio workout, but basketball is also an excellent social event. Spending time with your friends and making new ones is almost, if not more, important as keeping a slim waist line.

Don’t hesitate, no matter your skill level - get out there and dribble, pivot and score!

Planking

Let’s say you’re working from home and really can’t find the time to go out and exercise?

Well, guess what - you’ve got no excuses. Planking in your living room for 20-30 minutes a day can do wonders for your health, including the number on the scale.

Planking engages almost the entire body, including the shoulders, the pectoral muscles, glutes, but most of all the core muscles.

Start with short planks, about 20-30 seconds long, and increase your holding power as you go. Search the internet for more variations that target different muscle groups.

Conclusion

This article listed just some of the activities you can employ to lose a flabby stomach. The thing is that there is no one best solution that applies to everyone.

The most important thing is to raise your heart rate and do it on a regular schedule. Your body will respond to regularity within a month or two, and you will be amazed at the amount of weight that will just fly off your body.

Just don’t let your remote work get the best of you and find something you enjoy doing. If you hate planking with a passion - try something else. There’s a sport out there for everyone to enjoy.
