Thoth Tarot Deck

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the 6 of Wands.

If the fours of the Tarot represent a time of stasis to contemplate and reevaluate and the fives signify renewed action/disruption with the benefit of experience and intention, the sixes are all about the balance and marriage of the two. As they match the stillness of contemplation with the disruption of action there is a realization that the two are uniquely compatible with one other. The scattered, active energy of the fives combines with the lessons and understanding of the fours find harmony in the sixes. This is the six of Wands so we’re dealing with the element of fire and all its passion and creativity. The cool thing is that rather than being the fiery destructive force of explosion unleashed, this energy reflects force contained and utilized. In the internal combustion engine, balanced and well timed sparks from spark plugs ignite small explosions of fuel within cylinders which then force pistons up in a series. They, in turn, push rods down to turn and run the drive shaft to make the wheels roll. When those little bursts of energy are balanced by timing and contained in a safe environment they’re extremely useful. Our energy this week will feel like a well tuned engine.

The West card is the Hierophant. (High Priest)

This card represents the combining of macrocosm with microcosm. The joining of heaven and earth, spirit and form. As the High Priestess represents our inner knowing that there is something greater than ourselves that we are also a part of, so the High Priest represents the physical manifestation of the individual within that macrocosm. The archetype of the spiritual masculine gives physical form to our diaphanous spiritual knowing of Universe/God/Spirit/Buddha. (Choose your own greater being.) In short, he makes it real. This is the part of us that wants to apply the physics of being in physical form to the spiritual connection that almost all humans have recognized throughout history. With his energy we look to define what Spirit is and how we’re connected to it. The hard part is to recognize the whole of The Universal One within the individual and embrace two seemingly divergent principles as One.

The East card is the 2 of Pentacles.

The twos of the Tarot represent the recognition of their suit and its essence. The Aces are the energy of the suit in its purest form and in them the energy simply IS. There’s no division or separation to allow it to recognize itself. In order to do that the one must split into two and as the two faces itself recognition and form become realized. In the two of Pentacles we’re looking at this week --the earth element-- we find that recognition in its stablest and most fixed form. This resonates beautifully with the Hierophant and his physicality and has the potential to ground our creative vigor into reality. The ideas and fiery excitement of creative flow spark us to action and the things we’ve been dreaming of, contemplating and working on begin to take form. With this card we begin to see how change is at the crux of stability.

In Conclusion:

This week our energy flows easily and the desire to “git-r-done” is strong. If we can embrace the power and stability of change we can really put things into motion. So, if there’s a project, idea or objective that’s been simmering on a back burner, now’s a good time to bring it to the foreground and make it happen.

Have a creative and industrious week!
