Thoth Tarot Deck

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the Prince of Pentacles.

I see the court cards of the Tarot as the stages in which the lessons of the ace through ten are integrated and implemented. The Princesses (In the Thoth deck) are the youngest of the court cards and their experiences are like the first few days of a new job that they’ve been training for. I see the Princes as the adolescent boys of the Tarot. They’ve got a little bit of experience and often think they know more than they do. As a result, they’re bold, confident and occasionally reckless. They question authority, deny obstacles and dig in when they think they’re right. --Whether they are or not.-- The beauty of their headstrong determination is that they poke at the fabric of reality and boldly go where everybody tells them not to. Though it may seem that they’re being foolish, and no doubt they are sometimes, they also sometimes break through the restrictions of past boundaries as though they weren’t even there, creating new paths, new aspirations and new possibilities. With the Prince of Pentacles and the cards on either side this week, it seems to me that we may find it necessary to get strong and stubborn about the resources we need, staying mindful of and maybe even a bit stingy with the resources we have and the energy we’re willing to put into carrying the weight that really belongs to someone else.

The West card is the 9 of Pentacles.

With this card I see bounty, wealth, money/resources in motion rather than stagnant. The old saying that it takes money to make money may fit the scene well this week as well as the knowledge that energy we give will be proportional to the energy we receive. Under this influence resources flow freely. We find the time, the money, the skill or the energy and results begin to happen. One thing to keep in mind is that when we allow fears like I don’t have the money or the skills or the strength or the time we crimp the energy down and impede the flow. The combination of this nine and the Prince tells me that we may have to dig in, get stubborn and even demanding to keep things moving and that can be tough for some people. A good mantra for the week might be, “You GOT this!”

The East card is the 10 of Cups.

As this is the most intricate and varied of the lower Cups we find our emotions wide open. The feelings and connections we have with friends, lovers, family and colleagues are broad and we’re more likely, under this influence, to speak the truth of how we feel and open our hearts to the responses that come back. These truths can be wonderful and giving or they can be devastating in the moment. The trick is to stay open to the possibilities beyond what’s right in front of you and a whole new vista of options will open itself. Whether the honesty faced this week produces new love, ideas, jobs or the end of a relationship, the loss of a position or a change in how you see the world around you, the ten of Cups is most often a card of joy, connection, kindness and community. The outcome will very likely be one of good feelings and comfort.

In conclusion;

This week go with the flow and ride the wave while also staying strong and determined about having what you need to nurture yourself. With the increased movement of resources in the nine and the determination and daring of the Prince, the possibility that we can have a very successful week is high. The pitfalls to be mindful of are any fears about how worthy we are. Those fears can pull the rug right out from under us and that can be particularly scary if we’re flying high on the magic carpet of our own abilities, desires and passion. Reach out to family and friends with sincere gratitude and what you need will likely be heard, supported and supplied.

TIP for the week: You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.
