Are you someone who could use a good night’s sleep?

Well, you’re in luck, because you’re about to see four ways you can upgrade your bedroom a night of better sleep.

The first upgrade: Make your bedroom, your bedroom.

Your bedroom isn’t your kids’ playroom, your gym or home office. Your bedroom is your bedroom. So it’s best to keep it that way.

We have enough on our minds already and associating all these things with your bedroom will be a detriment to your sleep. Whether it’s your home gym, your work desk or computer, all these things need to leave your bedroom. Because it should be the place you go to rest and get a good night's sleep.

The last thing you want is to make it a place your brain associates with things that will prevent you from getting a well-deserved rest.

The second upgrade: Make your bed comfortable.

The majority of people sleep eight hours a day. In other words, we spend one-third of our day sleeping. Therefore investing in the mattress you sleep on is worthwhile.

Here’s some good news.

Buying a new mattress isn’t as expensive as it used to be. There are many companies that now sell a mattress in a box, offering their customers some of the most affordable high-quality mattresses.

But how exactly can they help you get better sleep?

Many of these mattresses contain memory foam, which will softly mould to your body’s shape as you sleep on it. Some of the best memory foam mattresses will relieve pressure across your body, reducing any pain you may have whilst enhancing your overall sleep.

The third upgrade: Reduce the use of devices before bed.

Using your device before bed can really affect your sleep in a negative way and here’s why:

Our devices emit blue light and the more we use our devices before bed, the more blue light we are exposed to.

“But what’s the big deal,” you ask?

The big deal my online friends is that blue light suppresses melatonin, a hormone that promotes sleep. The more you suppress melatonin, the more difficult it becomes for you to get to sleep.

Therefore, one of the easiest ways to get better sleep is to minimise the use of any device before bed.

The fourth upgrade: Keep your room quiet, cool and dark.

Controlling the environment of your bedroom can really help you get a night of better sleep. If there’s too much light coming from your window, it may be best to invest in some thick curtains. This will minimise the amount of light that enters your room.

If buying curtains is a little out of your price range, then look into buying an eye mask. You may find it funny to put on at first, but it’ll really improve your overall sleep.

Once you’ve rested your head on your pillow and put on your eye mask, if you find that there’s too much noise around which is preventing you from falling asleep, you may want to try earplugs to block out all that noise.

You can also try to place another pillow on top of your exposed ear, but that probably won’t be comfortable for long and it might make you pretty hot. Which takes us to our last tip:

Keep your bedroom cool. A hot bedroom can really keep you up at night. So here are some ways to keep you and your bedroom cool:

  • Invest in light bed sheets: Bamboo or cotton will do.
  • Buy a fan.
  • Ditch the thick pajamas: Get into something more comfortable.

Sweet dreams are only moments away.

There you have it, some simple upgrades you can make to your bedroom for better sleep.

Be sure to give them a go!
