Ultimate Guide to Self-Care

In order to have a good life and really enjoy it, you need to take care of yourself. Taking care of yourself is not always going to be an easy task. Some days it will be hard, some days you won't want to do anything, and that's okay. Always be kind to yourself and do the best you can at the moment, that's enough.

Self-care has many facets. I want to introduce you to some that can make a difference in your life:

1) Setting Boundaries

In my opinion, this is one of the most important. It's the boundaries that help us not to be mistreated and used. Be careful about the people you let into your life, and always set your boundaries. Each person has their limit, and you don't have to be afraid to verbalize yours. If someone doesn't accept your boundaries, maybe they don't deserve to have a place in your life.

Also, you should set boundaries with yourself. That is, do things that may be difficult, but deep down, you know it's the right decision. For example, when you commit to waking up earlier for a week, but end up breaking the promise you made to yourself because you stayed up all night on the Internet. Sometimes you need to force yourself to do the right thing. Start small and slow, you don't have to change your whole life in one day. A little progress is still progress.

2) Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

This is perhaps my least favorite, but I realize it's essential to living a more exciting life. Do things you're not used to doing, pull yourself to your limits, you'll end up thanking yourself for that. It can be a slow progress. And it doesn't even have to be something extreme. You can take a bath in cold water, do a workout you've never tried, or go to a restaurant you've never been to. Get used to feeling the discomfort and being able to do things anyway.

3) Choose Healthy Habits

Healthy habits are those that have a good impact on your life. Choose a healthy habit and stick with it for at least a month and you will see the difference. Some examples are: showing gratitude, eating healthier, or getting eight hours of sleep.

4) Put Yourself First

There is nothing more important than you and your mental health. You don't always have to be productive. You don't always have to do things for others. It's not your job to meet other people's expectations. Realize when you should walk away from a situation. Your priority must be always your health and happiness.

5) Give priority to your time alone

I think it is essential to spend time alone and to get used to having only your company. You will have to spend the rest of your life with yourself, so you might as well enjoy your company. Plan dates with yourself. Set a time of day just for you to do whatever you want. Do rituals at night where the only goal is to make you feel good.

6) Learn to forgive yourself

Things don't always go the way you thought they would or you didn't act the way you wanted. You said something you regret, or you exploded when something happened. And that's okay with that, we're all human beings and we're going to make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and always try to do better. Don't demand more of yourself than you can. Whenever your mind is too full, try writing down your thoughts, it can help you get more clarity on how you can grow.

Self-care can even be smaller than that and can be something that takes less than five minutes. For example:

- meditate for five minutes

- light a candle

- make a face mask

- drink water

- make your favorite food
