Turmeric Milk Or Yogurt Beverage

Milk/yogurt recipe and health benefits of turmeric.

Turmeric is a type of spice similar to ginger, and I think that most people know that it is beneficial for health. It is said to be anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and anti-bacterial and can reduce digestion-related issues such as irritable bowel syndrome and even more sinister issues such as parasites. Turmeric is a warming herb and so is suitable for cold diseases or problems. Since it gets rid of inflammation and encourages circulation, it is useful for those looking to lose some weight or as part of a detox. This will also help you to improve your energy levels.

Taking turmeric can also support brain health and improve memory while slowing down or even preventing age-related degeration of the brain. Since it is anti-inflammatory it may also protect against arthritis and stiffness in the joints and limbs, so encourages greater flexibility. It is anti-aging in general, and so is useful for people hoping to slow down the aging process. It is said to also improve mood and lift depression. This is because it is a rich source of antioxidants and improves brain health, which improves mood.

Used on the face as part of a face mask turmeric can clear and beautify the skin. There are some creams that have Turmeric as a base. However, the face needs to be properly washed after using turmeric externally since it tends to stain anything it touches and can leave a yellow stain on the skin. I used to use a mixture of turmeric and honey to make my skin clear and soft. However, it did take a lot of washing. You can also make a mask of Turmeric and yogurt and apply to the face for about ten minutes, leave it to dry, and then wash it off.

When taken internally, in order to get the most benefit from turmeric, it should be taken with something that contains fat for its proper absorbtion, or otherwise black pepper. The body does not benefit much from turmeric unless taken with one of these two.

For this reason, a good and tasty way to take turmeric is by making turmeric milk or mixing it with yogurt. It is easy to make a turmeric milk drink, which is good to have before retiring for the night, You just need:

one teaspoon of turmeric

one cup of milk

You can then mix these two together and bring them to a boil while stirring until the turmeric is dissolved into the milk. It will then become slightly yellow.

Another alternative is to mix a teaspoon of turmeric with yogurt and use it as you would normally use yogurt. It gives it a slightly different taste and color but you can use it as normal. People who I have given it to have liked the taste. I make yogurt and turmeric and then add the mixture to food or mix it with berries for a higher antioxidant intake.

A third alternative to making turmeric milk is to add some flour to the milk when boiling. I add a few teaspoons of barley flour. Barley flour is said to be calming for the nerves and prevents worries and affliction. It is soothing for the body. Barley is also said to help strengthen the immune system and also can protect against cancer, particularly breast cancer. Mixing it with milk and turmeric may increase the benefits of this beverage as well as encourage sleep.

So this is a good beverage for an anti-inflammatory diet, and people who cannot drink milk may substitute it with coconut milk, almond, soya, or other varieties that are available.
