Tips for Effective Invisalign Results

Just like most things, some tips can help you get the best out of Invisalign when you use them. Anyone opting for Invisalign or any orthodontic solution for that matter is always eager to get results. What if we told you that there are ways to increase your chances of fast results with Invisalign?

Well, our very considerate specialists have listed several ways to get significant Invisalign results. They include;

1. Wearing your Invisalign aligners for the most part of the day

One of the ways to get a quick result from Invisalign is to wear the aligners frequently. If you dedicate about 20-21 hours each day wearing the aligners, that leaves you about 3-4 hours of freedom and gives your teeth no excuse not to get in shape. You can always take out the aligners on special occasions after discussing this occasion with your specialist.

In an ideal situation, the aligners should be removed only for activities like eating, brushing the teeth and drinking. If you can stick with wearing your aligners for longer hours, then you can get the best results out of them.

2. Keep your aligners stored in their case

To avoid things like misplacing the aligners, or breaking them, it is always advised to keep the aligners safe in their case when you are not using them. Clear aligners can easily get missing, and they can be difficult to find. Make sure your aligners are either in your mouth or in their case. Also, you must avoid things like wrapping them in a tissue or piece of cloth, as by doing this, you would be exposing them to danger.

3. Develop the ‘brush-after-each-meal’ habit

When food particles get trapped in the teeth, they can easily lead to decay and stains in the mouth. This is why especially when wearing the aligners, it is a good idea to brush about 20 minutes after every meal. Noted, this is a difficult task to keep up with, especially for one who is constantly eating without a plan. However, this is a price you might need to pay for long-lasting aligners and faster results.

If you are simply unable to brush after each meal, let’s say you can’t exactly whoop out your toothbrush after lunch in the office to brush, then keep an anti-bacterial mouth wash on you always. You can also use water to rinse your mouth after each meal. As long as you keep food particles away, you will be good.

4. Avoid coloured drinks

When wearing aligners, avoid taking soda, tea, coffee or any other coloured drink for that matter. Drinks that contain a lot of sugar can escape into your aligners cause hidden decay there. It is a great idea to stick to water for the duration of your aligners being in your mouth. It is not very easy, but do think of it as a two-way benefit thing. You get to enjoy long-lasting aligners, and you get the benefits associated with taking only healthy drinks (water in your case).

5. Avoid putting your aligners in hot water

Hot water does not exactly resonate with the material your aligner is made from. Hot water can loosen the shape and texture of the aligners, sometimes leading to melting if used too often. This is also why you should avoid taking hot drinks when your aligners are on, as this can mess with it.

6. Avoid cleaning your aligners with toothpaste

It might be tempting to clean your aligners with toothpaste while brushing your teeth. However, we do not recommend this. This is because some toothpaste are made from abrasive materials that can easily reduce the sparkle of your aligners and make them very visible when used for long. Use water to clean them, and you can add a mild detergent.

7. Keep your old aligners with you

If you are getting new aligners or dropping them altogether, you still should not throw them away. Although you will be given new aligners and new cases to keep them in when you are getting a new aligner, it is smart to keep the old ones safely tucked away in their cases. This is because, at any point, the old aligners can come in handy, especially if you misplace your present aligners.

8. Remove aligners carefully

After a while, you get accustomed to the process of taking your aligners off. Loosen the aligners from the back of the teeth with your fingers, and keep working your way to the front until it comes off completely. Do not be in a hurry, or handle it carelessly. If you have a problem with removing your aligners, you can always tell your orthodontist and they can assist you.

9. Wear your retainers

After the completion of your Invisalign treatment, do not forget to wear your retainers. The bones supporting your teeth still need a little more time to become stable, and your retainers are designed to enhance this stability.
