Things You Didn’t Know About These Types of Antibodies
Explore these

As we know, the human body’s immunity system produces different types of antibodies while each of them has its own techniques to protect your body against harmful infections and viruses like Covid-19.
Each antibody produced by our immune system sticks to a particular antigen with a molecular shape and then destroys the pathogens so other immune cells can easily acknowledge it. Antibodies are also called immunoglobulins where Immuno signifies immunity and globulin signifies protein. They are produced by B cells which is a particular type of white blood cell that starts in the bone marrow.
IL8 antibody is amongst the most popular types of antibodies that react with humans. It is also called CXCL8 which is also a member of the CXC chemokine family. CXC is produced by different types of cells consisting of T cells, fibroblasts, neutrophils, endothelial cells, and several tumor cell lines in response to inflammatory stimuli.
Now, let’s shed some light on other antibodies, each has a different binding site that matches a particular antigen:
Immunoglobulin A (IgA)
Generally, it is found in mucosal tissues, such as those in the vagina, mouth, intestines, breast milk, saliva, and tears. Combining all of them makes 15% of all antibodies in the human body and is secreted from lamina propria which is a thin layer within muscular tissues.
Immunoglobulin A is actually considered one of the human body’s first-line defenses against infection and viruses. This antibody is even linked with autoimmune disorders and celiac diseases.
Immunoglobulin G (IgG)
It accounts for 75% of the antibodies in the human body and depending on the antigen, Immunoglobulin G can tag a pathogen so that other immune cells and proteins can release the toxins to destroy the microorganism.
Immunoglobulin E (IgE)
This antibody is wholly responsible for the allergic response which is usually found in skin, lungs, and mucosal membranes. Immunoglobulin E binds to allergens and causes a lot of events to happen.
IgE is secreted by B cells produced by lymph nodes that are surrounded around the site of the allergens.
Immunoglobulin D (IgD)
It is quite essential in the initial stages of the immune response. It is not like other antibodies as it does not circulate rather binds to B cells to trigger the immunity levels. It only accounts for 0.25% of antibodies in the human body but it can actually contribute a lot towards other significant parts of the immune system of the human body.
General Aspects About Antibodies
Given the current Covid-19 pandemic, these antibodies can be really effective in treating mild to major infections and other ailments. Let’s discuss some of the unheard aspects of antibodies:
There are two layers of immunity protection - innate and adaptive. Redness and swelling around the injured area show innate immunity response while the non-specific response buys time for adaptive immunity to scale a targeted counterattack.
No doubt, not all antibodies are created equally. Some of them may not be able to detect viruses while others may block the essential proteins. Antibodies that defend cells from infection are known as neutralizing antibodies.
To create a neutralizing antibody, it is imperative to have updated knowledge about how the virus is evolving. You need to ensure that you are targeting important proteins which are less likely to emerge with new mutations. Cocktails of various antibodies may be required to cover the viral strains that have majorly evolved from different parts of the world.
While taking an antibody test, it is essential to keep in mind that antibodies are produced in response to infection so they are not the infection or disease. Some diseases can be easily diagnosed with antibodies like IL8. Your healthcare provider or physician can better educate you about the window period for the infection or disease you’re dealing with.
