The Universe Is Your Most Supportive Friend

How the illusion of separation fools us

Being mainly concerned with our personal agendas, and observing the same dynamic in others - it becomes easy to conclude we're alone in this world, that no one cares about us and that ultimately, everyone is wanting something from us because that's what we believe in, and therefore project onto the world.

Spiritual teachings often tell us we create our reality. We're told that we co-create our experiences with The Universe. But the first thing that comes to mind whenever such words touch us is, how on Earth am I creating my life when nothing happens as I expect it to?

*

We define ourselves through our past:

I am my shortcomings, I failed my exams, everyone always laughed at me in class, I am mortified in front of others, my parents always told me that I am not good enough, my teachers told me I will amount to nothing, no one is interested in me, the world is a fearful place to live in, everyone is trying to get something from me, I have nothing to offer, my colleagues are always scheming against me, my boss never recognizes my value. Etc.

Through our past experiences, we form a library of memories, one that follows us like our shadow. In our younger years, we're most absorbing and therefore, whatever we're told becomes a "prophecy." If we were told that we weren't good enough as an example, we'll believe in it and seek experiences that confirm it.

A belief such as "I am not good enough," as an example, narrows our perception of reality. That's why it's called a limiting belief. We perceive through this belief. We process our experiences through this belief. And because we've identified with this belief - we make it stronger.

Just like a baby, a belief is a creation. And just like any creature, its main motive is to survive. To keep using this example. The more we identify with not being good enough, the more we'll want to prove it, because after all - it's "us" and without that belief, we're no more. This belief is everything we've known; it feels familiar, it's our sense of security. So fear is implied too. This is a delicate situation. Our psyche is complex.

Identification with limiting beliefs creates stagnation. We're confused but we're also attached to those beliefs because we feel it's all we've got. This tension creates those people that love to blame others for their issues. It encourages self-victimization. It's how complacency, lack of energy, density, procrastination, sluggishness are born. It's not that those souls can't or won't - but rather, they've identified so strongly with limiting patterns that they're "tied" in some way. This stagnating state is called "Tamas" in Hindu teachings.

Tamas (Sanskrit: तमस् tamas "darkness") is one of the three Gunas (tendencies, qualities, attributes), a philosophical and psychological concept developed by the Samkhya school of Hindu philosophy.[1] The other two qualities are rajas (passion and activity) and sattva (purity, goodness). Tamas is the quality of inertia, inactivity, dullness, or lethargy. Source

As souls, in a spiritual school that is the Earth, we want to learn about ourselves, about what we're capable of accomplishing, and more importantly - we want to realize who/what we all are. But to do that. We need to leave our comfy godly realms, and throw ourselves in an adventure as crazy as completely forgetting who/what we are.

Like a newborn child, we're innocent during the beginning of our journeys. We're given these bodies that are biased towards survival. We're given a mind that has been conditioned and programmed by its surroundings for years. And we have to deal with people, and figure things out along the way.

It's therefore natural to believe in most of those beliefs we have in our subconscious as being the "ultimate truth" to life. Especially at first. It's natural to have body needs. It's natural to be where we are. We're newborn child in some ways, and we don't have all the answers yet. But we chose to try the adventure. It felt intimidating. But here we are. We're bold. We'll have "recreational breaks" after each lifetime, but eventually, we'll have to forget everything again - and jump.

As we keep going through those "adventures", again and again, we notice certain trends. We see that actions cause outcomes. We understand that if we're mean, it hurts us in some ways. We understand that if we're compassionate, and serve others, our heart responds to it and we feel alive.

Learning those lessons slowly but steadily harmonizes us with the greater forces of the universe. And when we finally become truly synchronized with life itself, we reach "enlightenment." Which is the remembrance of our initial state of "godliness," but this time - with the wisdom we've acquired throughout our beautiful and varied experiences.

Without the universe mirroring our beliefs back to us, we wouldn't be able to meet the right people, go through the right experiences and more importantly - have the terrain being laid out for our learning to occur - this learning we signed up for.

The belief in separation makes us perceive life as if we're all alone and powerless in this giant random thing called the universe, but the truth is that, life is very supportive - the simple fact of assisting us in learning our lessons, of helping us meet the right people, and being in places at the right time - that's an invaluable gift.

Everything around us, whether it's people, Nature, situations, objects - everything exists for "us" to learn just like we help others learn too. We're this giant family having this enormous "dance" together. One movement makes everything else move. We're a beautiful system.

Life is your ally.
