The Reality of Life

A Realization by Lucas Thompson

This might sound crazy to some, but my biggest fear as a human being, other than losing family, is the future of our species. As a fellow human, I am connected to all of the people on this planet. Due to that, I am truly worried about the way we treat our home. I have seen the movie Wall-E and the concept is pretty accurate. One day Earth will be covered in trash and we are going to be faced with a choice. The human race will either die, or colonize another planet.

Joe Rogan has one of my favorite quotes of all time and it is the perfect analogy for this belief. He says:

“I think if you were an intelligent life-form from another planet, you wouldn’t see individual people, you wouldn’t see housekeepers and limo drivers, and stand up comedians. You wouldn’t see that, you would see mould on a sandwich.I think if you look at us subjectively and the way we've always been, it doesn’t matter how much access to info we have, it doesn’t matter how much technological innovation we have, we're always going to destroy the Earth, cause I think, one way or another, that’s what we're supposed to do.That's our purpose here on earth. We are here to, fuck shit up. I think we're here to eat the sandwich.”

With that being said, eventually we will need another meal. If we don’t find somewhere for us to go after our homeworld is turned to shit, we will go extinct. So where are all the spaceships and teleporters to get us there?

It seems there will always be people of Earth who can’t see the big picture. There will always be money-hungry savages looking for a means to get ahead. I understand the concept of helping yourself while you’re here, but what about the generations of children that are going to come along in the future? Are we really so selfish to not give a fuck about a living organism growing up in a land of filth? I personally hate trash and always want to get it away from me, so I would be infuriated if it was building blocks of everything around me. That there is what makes me appreciate recycling.

However, even with recycling, it is inevitable for a planet to become a dumpster. For 21 years I have believed that it is my duty to create. Whether it’s a painting, some digital art, a song, or a written article, I want to create. The shitty thing is that everything created is left behind to dirty up the place. It will be appreciated by family and friends, and if you’re lucky generations of people will look back at what you made. But eventually, they will die too and one day nobody will know… Unless it is preserved and taken to another galaxy with a different planet that can inhabit life.

What really sucks about this truth, is the realization that death is constant. Even if we colonize another planet, in the long run that planet will die and we will be faced with the same decision: colonize another world or die. One day there will be no more worlds even though there are multitudes of galaxies that exist.

What I’ve uncovered from this discovery is the meaning of life… There isn’t one. Other than LIVE. There are no real rules, other than what you’re told. You can do whatever you want until you die and then you’re dead. So it’s up to you to figure out how long your life is going to be. Clearly the safeguarded person is going to live longer than the wild one, but it is it really living? That’s for you to decide.

There will always be somebody to tell you what to do, but are you going to listen? Is there any real reason to care about future generations? Other than a good heart, the answer is no. Pessimism is always perceived as negative because it is, but a lot of the times it’s realistic. It’s unfortunate but it’s the truth, and that’s why we need to enjoy what we have. Whether or not we’re the first people to colonize Mars, or the people spend the day relaxed in bed, that’s what we got.

Do what you enjoy, because one day you won’t be able to. That’s the point of life. I feel like it’s creation but that’s because I enjoy creating. Do what you wanna do and go out with a smile on your face.
