The Object That Weighs Less Than A Pound, That You Wouldn’t Be Alive Today Without

possibly the most important thing in our lives, that we rarely take time to appreciate

The Human Heart. Possibly one of the least appreciated things in Human History. The Average Human Heart clocks in at around 11 ounces. Yet for a small organ, it sure does a lot. It single handedly pumps blood, all throughout our bodies, providing oxygen, nutrients and so much more to every cell in our body. And what do we do? Some of us choose to eat absolute garbage, and clog up our arteries making its job, of keeping you and me alive, even harder than it already is. But we appreciate and acknowledge our heart right? After all, we did name a shape after it, that doesn’t even resemble it. The normal human heart is an abstract shape, but more resembles an oval, not the “heart” that we created in honor of it. You may think that you’re life is hard. Wether you’re a student, or an employee, or a boss, some of you must be working off of 6 hours of sleep? And then complaining about it the next morning. Well your and my heart can’t just take a break. While you’re sleeping, it’s still hard at work. It can’t just take a break, not even for 1 minute, or else neither you nor I would be able to wake up to complain the next morning about the crazy little amount of sleep we got.

I just want to put a concept in your mind. An average elephant drinks 350 gallons of water a week. Crazy right? Well the average human heart pumps 2000 gallons of blood every. single. day. We have a whole society, built by, run by us, and practically made to kill us. Our school system has become less of a system of learning, and more of a test of who can handle the most stress without breaking down. We grow fresh food, and then add so much stuff to it, to the point where it doesn’t even resemble its original state. If I asked you to list every ingredient in an Oreo for example, some would say eggs for the cream, sugar, flour and maybe some other stuff. Did you know about the high oleic canola oil? The soy lecithin? The thiamine monoitrate? But it’s fine, after eating “junk food”, you can easily just go the gym and work it all off. It’s just a temporary problem, right? For your body, sure, for your heart, not so much. All the bad stuff you eat, causes your arteries to become clogged and eventually possibly cause a heart attack, which is when an artery gets so clogged, that it is simply unable to push blood anymore.

You see, my name is Aron Edward Frishberg. I weigh give or take, 150 pounds. I’m 15, I’m a proud jew, a computer scientist, an athlete and an American. Yet without my heart, something inside of me, that weighs less than 1 pound, I would be nothing.

After this article, I don’t expect you to convert to a vegan, stress-free life. You’ll probably forget most or even all of this speech. I just ask two things of you. The next you’re about to eat something, don’t think about what it will do toy, or cost you. Think about what it will do to your heart. And the next time you’re stressed at work, or school, don’t breakdown and freak out. Just relax. Our heart is a part of us, and all of us would nothing without it.
