The only thing more important than your daily routine is (you guessed it) your nightly bedtime routine. Sleep is one of the easiest ways to improve your mental and physical health, as well as benefit your overall wellbeing, so why skip out on it? In preparation for one of the most important parts of your "day," there are many varying routines in which people partake, from simply rolling into bed at the end of the day to having hours of preparation time. You might be wondering what the right move is and where to find that "sweet spot" when it comes to your nightly setup. Find out the importance of having a nightly bedtime routine, how to achieve a successful one and what the benefits are by checking out these tips.

Shutting Down Early

Technology, while amazing and widely useful among all age ranges, industries and purposes, can also be quite the hindrance when it comes to your sleeping schedule. Shutting down your devices at least one hour prior to hopping into your comfiest clothes and getting settled under the covers can have major perks. Once you turn off your cell phone, computer or other electronic device, you are letting your brain know that it is time to shut down as well. Being able to disconnect from the goings-on on social media, your news application, your work email or a rabbit hole of videos allows your mind time to calm down and stop racing. Doing so can support your goal of reaching a more restful state of sleep a little bit quicker.

Investing in Skincare

Making time for and nailing down a proper skincare routine may just seem like a fringe benefit to having extra time in your nighttime wind-down, but it houses so much more than just feeling clean at the end of the day. Whether you are working from home, sitting in an office or are in an on-the-go environment with your job, taking the time to care for yourself and your skin can show improvements in your mental health. Having happy, healthy skin can boost your confidence and gives you one less thing to worry about before heading to bed.

Getting Comfortable

Speaking of beds...is yours right for you? The importance of seeking out and purchasing the right kind of mattress for your body and lifestyle cannot be stressed enough. If you do not have the time to go mattress shopping (like most busy individuals), consider buying a bed in a box. That's right. A bed in a box. Many people have taken an interest in these types of mattresses, and for good reason. The process of buying one of these innovative beds is fast, efficient and most importantly, simple. Most companies let you to choose the firmness and style of your mattress, giving you peace of mind when you finally press "place order." Having the right mattress helps you to get comfortable faster, making way for better sleep and improved mental health.

Remaining Calm

Prior to going to sleep, consider partaking in some form of mindful meditation, yoga or light reading. Similar to cutting off your screen time at least an hour before going to sleep, giving your brain something easy and relaxing to do can provide you with the tools you need to get restful sleep. Committing to an hour or so of relaxing can guide your mind away from your daily stresses, internal and external conflicts and more. By choosing to put your mind at ease during your nighttime routine, you're choosing to put yourself and your health first.

The importance of having a nightly bedtime routine is shown the very next morning when you wake up and start getting ready for the day. You may find that removing distractions, taking care of yourself, investing in the right sleep aids (like a new mattress) and detoxing your brain can have more than one perk! You'll feel well-rested and ready to tackle your day, as well as be instilled with confidence and peace.
