The Impact of Thoughts

Thinking More or Less

Thoughts have a huge impact on the way we see the world and the way we interact with the people around us; we create feelings and emotions from the things that we remember from our distant and immediate past. I can attest to power of thoughts because I’ve seen the good and the bad that it can cause; like superstition it can only take effect if you give it permission to take effect. There have been so many times that I have let my thoughts get the best of me and ruin something that I was working to fix, not only about myself but about the environment around me. Thoughts have a psychological effect on you that can manifest itself into something physical if you are not careful, this is as little as a head ache or as big as thinking you have a disease that you clearly don’t have. I know so many people who let their thought make them feel a certain way and act a certain way; this causes them to treat the people around them poorly.

I’m going to tell a story of a woman who let her thoughts get the best of her and dictate how she saw the world and the people in it.

In the beginning, life was simple and things were pleasant for the woman in question, she loved life and the way her path was heading, but as time went on, she began to see things in a whole new light. It starts out with her getting a job, although she loved that it made her feel grown up to have a means of making money, it was not what was in her heart to do this. She would try to make the best her situation and hope that one day she would grow to love this job no matter how long she had to work there; she saw this as a temporary situation that she would rectify at some point in her life. As time went on, she began to think about her dream job less and less because life just kept piling on more things for her to deal with. Bills kept growing and life moved on; she kept trying to get back to the way things were supposed to go but she always seemed just out of reach of what she was trying to get.

She began to let her thoughts become more and more negative as time went on and she spiraled into a hole that she thought she would never get out of; the more life piled on, the worse her thoughts became until she just gave up thinking positive. She was so convinced that nothing good was going to come her way that she hardly wanted to get out of bed anymore, which started to affect her view of the world. She would complain about everything in her life and did not want to try to change it because she didn’t think it would help her situation. One day she was sitting at home going over her life in her mind and something just clicked; she suddenly realized that nothing is as bad as it seems. She made up her mind that she was going to try to think more positive; she decided to live her life the way she wanted and be free.

After finally realizing that life was too short to let herself be controlled by her thoughts, she opened up her mind; she was no longer letting past experiences and hurt dictate how she lived. She was able to live a happier life and do all the things that she wanted to do but was too scared to do; life was better for her.

You see thoughts change the way you see everything in your life, they keep you from doing things that you want to do and hold you hostage as they fill you with emotions that you don’t want to have. When your thoughts begin to be too much for you to handle, it is best to just shut your mind down and forget about what it is that is driving you crazy and just try to go without thought for a little while. There are so many ways that you shut off your thoughts; one of the main methods is to do meditation, although most people have a hard time getting into it, it is very beneficial to your health. I find the best way to do this is to sit in a quiet room and close your eyes, once you have done that just relax your mind and eventually it will shut down and you won’t think of anything. You can do this for as long as you want, although if you are just starting out I would try for an hour and see how that goes for you before trying something longer.

I leave you with these final words to think on in the hopes that I can change the way you see things and want to try to change your thought process; life is too short to only want to see things one way. The way you think about things will affect the way you feel about things; letting your thoughts control you is never a good idea and is damaging beyond repair if you let it get too out of hand. Keeping your thoughts positive is always the way to go because it can open up so many doors to you and show you things that you would not have normally seen. Shutting down your thoughts when they begin to get too much is not a bad thing and can help you to regroup and come at something in a whole new way that might help you feel differently. Try to keep your thoughts positive and don’t let the negative thoughts control the way you see yourself, the world, and your environment around you.
