Doctor Fauci descends from Italian Immigrants

Dr. Anthony Fauci was born December 24th, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York to Stephen A. Fauci and Eugenia Abys. Dr. Fauci attended Regis High School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where he was the captain of the school's basketball team. After High School, Dr. Fauci attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts where he earned an Bachelor of Science Degree in Classics in 1962. While attending Holy Cross, Fauci made Dean's List, and was a member of the Outing Club, the Aquinas Academy, the Knights of Columbus, the Biology Society where he served as Treasurer, and was on the Junior Prom Committee.

After graduating from the College of the Holy Cross, Fauci attended Cornell University Medical College where he graduated first in his class with a Doctor of Medicine in 1966. Fauci would go on to complete his internship and residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center (now known as New York-Presbyterian Hospital).

Fauci's first job after completing his residency was with the National Institute of Health as a Clinical Associate at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. By 1974, Fauci would become the Head the Clinical Physiology Section. Fauci became the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAD) in 1984 and holds this position to this day.

A year after becoming the head of the NIAD, Fauci married Christine Grady, who at the time was a nurse with the NIH. The couple have three daughters together.

Currently, Dr. Fauci is serving on the White House Coronavirus Task Force in the effort by the United States Government to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

The Parents of Anthony Fauci: Stephen Antonio Fauci and Eugenia Abys

Stephen Antonio Fauci was born September 11th, 1910 in New York to Antonio Fauci and Calogera Guardino. Eugenia Abys was born August 3rd, 1909 in New York to Giovanni Abys and Raffaella Trematerra. Stephen and Eugenia married on January 21st, 1929 in New York City when they were both 18 years old. In 1931, Stephen was attending the College of Pharmacy of the City of New York. He was described as someone who was "full of spirit" and excelled at being a "class jester".

By 1940, Stephen and Eugenia were living with Stephen's parents on 1669 79th Street in Brooklyn, New York. At the time, Stephen is listed as working as a Druggist. The building which they lived in is still standing today.

Two years later, Stephen registered for the draft as the United States was entering World War Two. At the time, he and Eugenia were still listed as living at the same address in Brooklyn. Stephen is listed on his draft card as working at S. Puleo Pharmacy at 16 Spring Street in New York.

On October 29th, 1965, Eugenia died at age 56. Stephen died on May 13th, 2008 at age 97 in New York. Stephen and Eugenia are now buried n Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.

The Paternal Grandparents of Anthony Fauci: Antonio Fauci and Cologera "Lillie" Guardino

Antonio Fauci was born in 1876 in Sciacca, Italy to Pierto Fauci and Accursia Abruzzo. Cologera "Lillie" Guardino was born in 1873 in Sciacca, Italy to Pierto Guardino and Calogera "Lillie" Guirreri. Lillie immigrated to the United States in 1890 from Italy when she was just 17 years old. Antonio would do the same in 1900 when he was 24 years old. Antonio and Lillie married on April 19th, 1902 in Manhattan, New York when Antonio was 26 and Lillie was 29. According to the 1920 United States Census, the Faucis would later move to 1646 81st street in Brooklyn, New York. During this time, Antonio was in the process of obtaining citizenship in the United States and had submitted his paperwork to do so. During this time, Antonio is listed as working as a bookkeeper in the contracting industry. By 1940, Antonio and Lillie moved to 1669 79th Street, in Brooklyn. By this time, Antonio was working as a contractor but had officially become a citizen of the United States.

Lillie died on January 31st, 1952 in New York at age 79. Antonio died eight years later in 1960 at age 84. They are both buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.

The Maternal Grandparents of Anthony Fauci: Giovanni Abys and Rafaella Trematerra

Giovanni Abys was born on October 23rd 1876 in Italy to parents whose names are unknown. Rafaella Trematerra was born in 1884 in Naples, Italy to parents whose names are unknown. Giovanni immigrated to the United States on May 17th, 1902 on board the Gallia. Around the same time, Rafaella also immigrated to the United States although an exact date is indeterminable. Once in the United States, Giovanni would start to go by John Robert Abys. This is name he used when he declared his intent to become a citizen of the United States on October 8th, 1907.

On September 12th, 1918 Giovanni registered for the draft as the United States entered into World War One. At the time, Giovanni is listed as working as a designer in New York, being medium height, medium build, and having blue eyes and black hair.

By 1920, the Abys family was living on 8641 16th Avenue in Brooklyn, New York and Giovanni is listed as being an artist and being in the process of becoming a citizen. By 1930, the Abys family was still living at the same address in Brooklyn and Giovanni had become a known artist in the area, especially for his landscapes. At this time, Giovanni had not yet become a full citizen of the United States, a process that he had been working on for 23 years at this point. It is unknown if he ever completed this process during his lifetime.
