Stress for High School Students
We all deal with stress at one point or another. It is important to know where that comes from and how to ease the pressure.
Being a student myself, I have dealt with a seemingly unbearable pressure from my parents, teachers, and peers. This has caused me a massive amount of stress, but how does one relax with everything going on in their life? Now obviously I’m no expert, but here are a few things that I like to try and incorporate into my life to help relieve stress.
1. Managing Your Time
Time management is probably one of the most important things you can do to have less stress in your life. Having a healthy balance between schoolwork, social time, hobbies, exercise, work, and just a time to relax for yourself can help ease up on tension a lot. Try to have a schedule and keep track of how much time you’re spending on certain tasks so you can keep a clear head while getting stuff done.
2. Toxic People
Having toxic people in your life can put tons lot of weight on your shoulders. Many teenagers deal with toxic people every day, but why keep people in your life who give you trouble? Removing yourself from toxic people and situations will make you feel better about yourself and remove a great deal of stress from your life.
3. Sleep and Caffeine
Having a good night's sleep helps you deal with your stress a lot easier. The recommended amount of sleep for teenagers is about 8 to 10 hours, yet many get way less than that. Due to lack of sleep, many resort to caffeine which is known to cause stress and even trigger panic attacks. Getting out of the sleep deficiency and caffeine routine will surely help you loosen up.
4. Do something you love.
Taking the time out of your day to do something you genuinely enjoy will help take your mind off things for a little while and help you decompress. Whether it be reading, painting, or exercising, do something you’re passionate about. Setting aside time for something you’re enthusiastic about gives you time to ease up during the day and just be happy instead of worrying about something.
5. Talk to somebody.
If you have a lot going on in your life, whether it’s social issues, family issues, or schoolwork that's stressing you out, it's going to cause a great burden on you. Talk to your friends or family about what’s going on in your life to relieve some of that social pressure. If you’re having trouble with school, try talking with a guidance counselor or your teachers and tell them what you might be struggling with. If needed, try going to therapy and talking through what’s going on in your life there.
