What does it mean to be healthy? The media would like people to think that it means being thin or muscular, but it's much more than that. Being healthy involves a number of dietary changes and exercise options.

Have Regular Doctors Visits

One of the best places to start when it comes to monitoring your health is to seek a professional's advice. Try going to the doctor once a year for an annual check-up. By doing this, your doctor can better track your health over time. He or she will also be able to give you personalized suggestions, as to what to do to improve your health.

Watch What You Eat

A healthy diet is one of the most important things to have if you are to improve your overall health. This doesn't mean that you should try an extreme or untested diet plan. Fad diets will do very little, if anything at all, to improve your health. In fact, it can do more harm than good.

Instead, it's best to find a diet plan that is realistic and sustainable. Cutting out carbs entirely or switching to a vegan diet when you love hamburgers are not realistic plans. Instead, it might be better to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet. Make little changes. Over time, they are sure to pay off.

Another way to improve your diet, without needing to eat bland foods, is to try out new recipes. The musician Randy Jackson has been quoted saying, "Down south, eating is a way of life. If it doesn’t taste good, we don’t touch it!" Sometimes, healthy food tastes awful; it's true. So, if you're able to make healthy food that you enjoy, then you're more likely to enjoy healthy food more often.

Exercise Often

Did you know that dieting and exercising, put together, is more effective than just exercising, or just eating right? For this reason, exercising on a regular basis is a great step to take, to improve your health. Getting at least an hour of exercise a day, three or four times a week, is ideal.

Exercising, even if your goal is not to lose weight or gain muscle, can still help to improve your health. It's great to get up and get moving. After all, not everyone needs to lose weight to be healthy. Some people just prefer not to build muscle as well. This could be simply for aesthetic reasons. No matter the reasoning, just being thin and muscular doesn't make a person healthy.

Keep Track of Your Mental Health

One thing that people often forget about when they are working on improving their physical health is their mental health. Sure, eating right and exercising are great for the body, but you need to remember to take care of your mind as well.

It's easier said than done, but try not to become too stressed out. Make sure to take time to relax each day. If possible, try to leave a stressful situation when it comes up. Just walk away.

Also, try to find things that help you unwind after a long day. Keep a playlist of your favorite songs on your phone, take a walk when you're feeling stressed, or try yoga or meditation. Make time for whatever makes you happy. Even little things can do a great deal to improve your mental health.

All in all, there are many things you can do to improve your health—both mental and physical. It is important to keep in mind that the health of your body and mind are equally important.

Creating a body-positive image for yourself is one of the best things you can do to improve your self-esteem. Whether you want to see a doctor, try some new recipes, take up weightlifting, or try meditation, there are so many options that anyone can try to improve his or her health. Whether you are famous or poor, there is always something you can do!
